Sissy self-stimulation
Hey, quick question from a neurotypical person. Is it offensive if I use the word stimming to describe my own compulsive fidgeting? flicking my wine key open repetitively, tugging at the skin on my hand, etc. Or is that a word specifically used to describe autistic people's specific experiences that I shouldn't use?
Neurotypical people can stim too, they just don’t do it as much as autistic people do. For example when neurotypicals bounce their legs, twirl their hair, pull on their jumpers etc they’re subtly stimming without even realizing. So to answer your question, nope I don’t find that offensive at all.
