So there was a bit on NPR today about being a friend to someone who is going through hell, and the person said something like,

It's like we're standing at the edge of the ocean together, and I look out and I see something, and I can't describe it, and I ask you if you see it too. And you say that you see it. And all that matters is that connection we have, of having seen the same thing.

and this made me think,

Maybe there really is something wrong with me, because that's all I really want, what feels like every day of my life, to just have someone see what I see. How can that be what anyone else wants, if this is the first time I am hearing that described in a way that I feel in my bones?

insane how bad bunny has this ability to just top his best work time and time again. debi tirar mas fotos is the top of his game, but only so far because I know he can top it again, and he’s using it to cape hard for our people and our history. hard to describe how important benito is as an artist to me. his music is one of the few ways that, on my own, I’ve been able to stay connected to my culture, which has largely been lost in assimilation or lost in translation or, even at times, gatekept in my own family. to know the biggest latin pop star in the world is puerto rican, to know that he’s one of the most famous artists in the world who consistently capes for trans rights, to know that with his latest album he is specifically calling attention to how the island is being taken from us by vicious colonizers, inhuman capitalists, and their oblivious children, all of this inspires so much hope and joy in me. even though I’ve never lived on the island, even though I haven’t been able to return there for years, and even though I still mostly remain a no sabo, when he makes a slogan of “seguimo aqui” I feel it in my bones. no matter what, I will always remain the daughter of jíbaros.

the independence party vote for governor has been growing rapidly on the island over the last decade, going from a 2% vote share to 31% between 2016 and 2024. fuck statehood, fuck america’s continuing colonial project, and may the architects of our land’s devastation know our wrath.
