(No. 3) Women’s Center for Creative Work
Women’s Center for Creative Work was started in 2013 by Kate Johnston, Katie Bachler and Sarah Williams, friends who felt that LA was lacking a space in which to encourage the creativity, advancement, and personal growth of the female-identifying community. From their collaborative workspace in Glassell Park, WCCW hosts a bevy of events and workshops, from grant writing to improv classes and bookkeeping for creatives, as well as wellness classes, like weekly yoga and storytelling. Classes are taught by women around Los Angeles who want to share their skills and expertise with those who yearn to learn — the center is always open to workshop proposals and pitches, and (unless specified) programs are open to anyone interested in approaching creativity through a feminist lens. Also a fixture at the LA Art Book Fair, WCCW is constantly connecting female-identifying artists and publishers with a larger audience. The space also features a print and copy center, a garden, and a library, and is a true home to those seeking to creatively expand and grow.
