A Faster Way to Batch-Rename Your Product Photos
IMG_4821.jpg. IMG_4822.jpg. IMG_4823.jpg. If that's what your product photo folder looks like right before upload, you're making extra work for yourself — and quietly hurting your own SEO.
Why file names actually matter:
Search engines and marketplace platforms both read image file names as a ranking signal. "IMG_4821.jpg" tells Google nothing. "navy-cotton-crewneck-sweater-front.jpg" tells it exactly what's in the photo — and that's context that can help the image (and your listing) surface in search results.
1. In Adobe Bridge, select all the photos for one product.
2. Go to Tools → Batch Rename.
3. Set the naming template to your product's keyword phrase, plus a sequence number (e.g., navy-cotton-crewneck-sweater-01, -02, -03).
4. Preview before applying — Bridge shows you the exact new file names so you can catch typos before they're permanent.
No Bridge? Windows PowerRename and Mac's built-in Finder "Rename X items" tool (right-click a selection → Rename) both do a lighter version of the same thing — good enough if you're only managing a handful of SKUs.
One habit to add: rename before you edit, not after. If you rename post-edit, you'll do it under deadline pressure and skip it half the time. Build it into step one of your workflow instead.
