A friend saying goodbye because of their need to complete a duty.
“B-But sir,” stammered Sellik as he lost his proper posture at the kill order he was given. “we have no proof that Captain Y/N is the spy we are looking for and—”
“Are you defying my orders, Commander Sellik?” Hux turned around to him, a scowl on his face.
A spy had been running around the Capitol and Hux believes they had finally pinpointed them. The suspected spy was a friend of Sellik himself, a captain of the First Order, you.
“I entrusted you this duty of exterminating our pest because I want you to prove you aren’t a co-conspirator of Captain L/N. I know the bond you two share.” Hux threateningly marched towards the commander. “I had received enough intel to make the conclusion that we have found our spy, and you are to not question my judgement.”
Before Sellik could object further, wanting to defend you, a firm knock came at the door of Hux’s chamber and there you were, peeking from the crack of the door. Sellik and Hux turned to you saluting before you came in.
“Chancellor,” you said, straightening your back. “I was told to meet you as soon as I could.”
Sellik and Hux shared a look, one you didn’t understand of course. Hux gave Sellik a firm nod, prompting him to execute the order he was given. Hesitantly, Sellik lifted his head high and met you halfway into the room. You smiled at your friend, your fate unbeknownst to you.
Sellik’s heart ached when he saw your smile. You had been the one to keep him afloat for every down he’d face while you two worked in the First Order. He wished he could save you from himself, but Hux was watching and he was watching intently.
You saluted to greet Sellik, more than glad to have his company in Hux’s. “Good to see you, Commander Sellik.” you said with a wide smile. “What can I help you with today—”
Sellik drew his pistol that hung from his side and shot you square in the chest. You sustained the knock back, but not the damage. The shot had knocked the air out of you and so you struggled to gasp for it. You staggered forward, and snapping out of his state of shock, Sellik caught you and held you gingerly in his arms.
You shook violently from the pain as Sellik held you and you held onto him. You tried to spit out words to ask him about his betrayal, but nothing would come out except failed gasps for air. He shushed you quietly as to not let Hux hear and was struggling to say anything than repeating apologies.
“I-I’m sorry, Y/N.” he said, his words almost getting trapped in his throat. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry…”
Tears had begun to fall from his eyes and sobs were wracking his chest as he tried not to let them out. Hux was still watching and he wasn’t going to look away until he saw you dead.
“H-Hux thinks you’re the spy.” Sellik carefully whispered in your ear between the shaking of his voice. He gripped onto your uniform to stop your shaking, but he was shaking just as violently too. “He wanted me to kill you because he wanted me to prove my l-loyalty. I’m sorry for being so selfish, Y/N, I’m so s-sorry.”
He buried his face in the crevice of your neck and quietly sobbed, leaving tear stains on your well-pressed uniform. You smelled of fresh mint and clean linen. He always recognized that smell to be yours when you walked through the hallway. Sometimes, you’d even leave your scent on the belongings he’d lend you.
It always made him smile when he thought of you, but after this, he wasn’t sure of what to do with your memory. He still had his pistol in his hand knowing he had to pull the trigger one more time to finish what he started. Sellik didn’t want to lose you — he didn’t want to lose his only friend.
He paused his sobbing when he felt your hand grip his wrist that had the pistol. Sellik responded by his hand through your hair from the back of your head to comfort you however he could though it was almost over for you. You chuckled though it had gaps and hurt your chest.
“If it’s to help your position, Sel. Then—” you said but were cut off by your knees giving in on you, having Sellik to catch you and support your weight. “I forgive you. It’s alright, Sellik. You hear me? I forgive you. I… I love you.”
Sellik clenched his at your final words and pressed his lips against your ear. “I-I love you, Y/N.”
Your forgiveness gave Sellik the strength to lift his pistol’s barrel to your chest again and pull the trigger. Much to his dismay, he felt the life leave you as if it were his own leaving his body. Your shaking stopped which gave him some comfort, but the lack of heartbeat easily overpowered that.
His pistol clattered to the floor when he let it go to properly pull you closer. He couldn’t say anything other than ‘I love you’s as he carefully settled you on the floor.
The light in your eyes that used to light up his day had gone out and so were the rosiness of your cheeks that he adored so much.
It wasn’t long after until the actual spy had been caught, but of course, Hux didn’t care about the miscalculation he had made that lead to your death. Sellik had proved his loyalty to Hux by killing you anyway, but ultimately, he failed to show his loyalty towards you.

A friend wanting to help their friend escape but also not wanting to not see them again.
Some time after you separated from Poe, Chewie, and Rey, your involvement with them was found out and it wasn’t long until you were captured. You had put up a good fight, but the injuries you sustained were in vain when you were brought to the Capitol.
Sellik, another friend of yours, was surprised when you were brought in. He was informed that he was to interrogate an accomplice of the Resistance when you wiped out the Knights of Ren, but he wasn’t told that it would be you.
The Stormtroopers dropped you at his feet with your hands tied behind your back. Sellik grimaced for you at how bruised and bloody you were. Not wanting anyone to know of your connections with each other, he made them clear the area to leave you two. Sellik sharply sighed at what he had to deal with. He usually found it easy to interrogate suspects, but never had his suspects been someone he knew until now.
“Long time no see, Sellik.” you wheezed as you struggled to at least get on your knees.
The Stormtroopers had kicked your chest, snapping a few ribs which made it difficult to breathe. You looked up at your friend with a smirk. He looked back with concern, but he was also concerned for himself and his position that he begun to panic over what to do.
“What happened back on Bonadan, Y/N?” He paced while keeping an eye out for possible eavesdroppers. If someone where to find out about you, you’d both be dead. “What did you do to the Knights?”
“I didn’t touch any of them other than Jaedec,” You groaned annoyedly. “we just finally settled a vendetta that had been going on for years. A vendetta I had to end because he was sure taking his time—”
“You were with the rebels when they attacked the Knights, now all of them are dead!” Sellik snapped, turning to you. There was more fear in his voice rather than authority, and this was something you definitely noticed.
“Save for the ‘Supreme Leader’.” You rolled your eyes. “How is he, by the way?”
Sellik ignored that question and rubbed his face with his hands. Stress came over him for every word you exchange and it was really taking a toll on him. He genuinely cared about you unlike Jaedec and he didn’t want to see you get hurt. With your positions, however, it made that very difficult.
“Everyone keeps telling me you’re the bad guy.” He groaned. “I’m sick of hearing it, Y/N.”
You hummed. “I wouldn’t blame them considering their perspectives—“
“Please grasp the severity of the situation, Y/N!” He practically begged. “I don’t like doing this to you.”
“Well, sorry that I got caught, Sel.” you said, still treating the situation inappropriately. “I didn’t even stick with the guys after we annihilated Jaedec and the others.”
You had treated the situation of Jaedec dying lightly to fool yourself into thinking you were joking. In truth, you were devastated by his death but had no time to be mourning right now. You felt the grief in your chest and the tears were slowly traveling up. Sellik saw it, but denied acknowledging it.
“Look, if you let me go now, Selly, I’ll make sure we don’t have to see each other again.”
“What if I don’t want to not see you again, Y/N?” His voice cracked at your name.
When you looked up to him, tears were at the corner of his eyes. His fists were clenched and shaking, and his mind was plagued with unsureness. The grief in your chest eased a bit at the sight of his concern, you’d lost Jaedec, but luckily, you still had Sellik.
“That’s sweet of you, Sel, but I care about us surviving.” You chuckled softly, trying your best to offer reassurance. Your voice was even soft this time which caught him off guard. “You don’t have to die because of me.”
“With or without your involvement, I’ll die one day, Y/N.” he mumbled and looked down at his feet. A few tears dropped from his eyes which forced him to aggressively wipe them away.
“Look at me, Sel.” You got on your feet after struggling to do so. The bruises the cracked ribs caused was making itself known unlike earlier. “I know we’re both gonna die soon because of this fire the Resistance started, but it doesn’t have to be now. Let me go and we can live for a little while longer.”
When you got close enough, Sellik wrapped his arms around you and buried his face into your shoulder. “I don’t want to see you go, Y/N…”
He pulled away after a while and wiped the remaining tears on his cheeks. It had been a while since he’d seen you, and he took that seriously. You had been a good friend to him and he doubted himself on whether he was a good friend to you, but either way, you didn’t care because you became friends with him because of his character you loved.
“And I don’t want to see you die, Sel.” You kissed his cheek.
Sellik sighed, accepting your fates. He glanced outside, and seeing that the troops were moving, he realized this would be a good time for you to escape. He took out a blade and swiftly cut your ties. You clenched your hands to feel sweet freedom once again and chuckled.
“The troops outside should be in the middle of a shift change, if you’re lucky enough,” He looked around, still having his eye out for eavesdroppers, and leaned in closer to you. “you should be able to slip through the courtyard undetected.”

… Y/N had been in Hux’s division ever since they were a sergeant and now a frontline commander. Y/N could’ve assumed the position of being Hux’s right-hand but turned it down, happy that Sellik has gotten the position instead.
Set in the Duel of the Fates Universe.
A/N: I’m sorry, Sellik, for everything you have to go through with being this ginger asshole’s right-hand. Also am using Gavin Stenhouse as Sellik’s faceclaim!!

The should-be right-hand talking with the current right-hand of the chancellor about the chancellor.
Sellik let out an annoyed sigh as he left the conference room. There were those days where Hux could be unbearable, and this was definitely one of them. Out of nowhere, you emerged from the shadows when Sellik got to the end of the all, startling him.
“Please be patient with the chancellor, Sellik.” you said, knowing his pain. “He went through a lot of downs in his general days.”
Seeing that it was only you, he calmed himself and smiled. He saw you as a kind colleague and overall a good friend. He knew he could be easygoing around you.
“Commander L/N, good evening.” He chuckled with a salute.
You saluted back and sighed at his formality. “I know I’ve been here longer, Sellik, but no need for the title, really.”
“I… I can’t help it sometimes, L/N.” He sighed and lowered his arm when you did. “I know I technically am higher than you in terms of rank but…” He looked down at his feet. “you were supposed to be Chancellor Hux’s right-hand.”
“I wouldn’t be able to handle him as well as you could, Sellik.” You chuckled, understanding but also confused at what he was feeling. “Hux and I have too much history together and our ideals don’t match up. The First Order would fall apart faster than it was built up if I were at the helm with Hux.”
As if on cue, you both saw Hux walking down the hall, the click of his boots bouncing off the walls. You and Sellik both saluted at his presence, but only you had a smirk on your face.
“Chancellor.” Sellik greeted.
“Commander Sellik. Y/N.” He nodded at both of you.
“Good evening, Hux.” You greeted nonetheless. “Despite being in the same building, I still barely get to see you.”
Hux rolled his eyes. It was true you barely got to see each other after Sellik officially became his right-hand, and it disappointed him the slightest bit, but again, like you had told Sellik, the First Order would crumble with the both of you working side-by-side.
“Believe me, it’s for the best. You out of all people should know that.” Hux shook his head.
“I know.” You smirked wider. “I’m just saying how big this place actually is.”
“Now if you’re done occupying Commander Sellik, Y/N,” He glared at you. “I’ll need his assistance now.”
“He’s all yours.” You shrugged and turned to Sellik. “Come to me if you ever need help, Sellik. I’ve basically cracked the code when it comes to this guy.”
You left quickly in order to avoid Hux’s scolding. He glared daggers at you on your way out and Sellik couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. He enjoyed having you as a superior, and you enjoyed having him be your superior.
