I know I shouldn't watch these movies around this time of night but I'm watching Selma (2014, about Martin Luther King) and only 45 minutes in and I already can't stop crying. even though it's a movie, this time I can't tell myself "it's not real", because it is. it is in fact very very real and there are hundreds of thousands of people still enduring the pain of discrimination, brutal police violence and their loved ones who have died getting no justice. people who are denied their human rights based on skin colour or gender, and thousands of people standing by and allowing it. it is as real now (Ferguson) as it was then. anyone saying we live in democracy is lying. anyone saying we have justice is lying straight out of their face. anyone trying to tell us everyone has a voice is lying.
