Model making! So we’ve started to delve into the brief and I’m looking at all the categories surrounding our brief. Here I’m looking to develop a backpack concept for carrying loose food, trying to spark change in the way we do our food shopping!

Making the legs!
So this is where I am currently at! I feel that making a Mortis and Tenon joint is quite satisfying. Although, I may have stepped towards using machinery here, It was necessary to achieve a nice tight fit.
All thats left to do is decide on the shape and the method to attach the seat.
Part way there!
Quite a quick process! I’m glad we had this mini brief, it allowed me to engage with wood on a more hand to hand basis. I used saws, chisels and sand paper in order to achieve this finish.
I found that my skill with a chisel is in need to work... My cuts could be a lot cleaner and smooth. However, I feel happy with this quick lap joint and look forward to making it into a stool!
Let’s make a stool!
For a quick little project to get me more familiar with wood, I’m going to attempt a 3-point lap joint. Hopefully, I’m not too unfamiliar with wood so that I can achieve a good output!
After coming up with some completely weird Ideas, such as a carrot cutting device… we decided to move ahead with a teabag catapult..
Here we are in the workshop with our prototype, working out the pivot point and the leverage we need.
Kicking Semester 2 off by jumping straight in.
How can we repurpose items to increase value? Here’s some images of us discussing through quick sketches and some of the items I brought in.
It’s good to be back!
lil update
-I love my OB lecture. Clinical is okay - weird nursing dynamics in this hospital. I like working with the patient population. My ovaries also explode with the newborns. I could see myself working in L&D one day. Maybe. I think I still like M/S better, though. I think the only thing I wish I knew would be to bring more snacks.
-I HATE peds lecture. What a waste of time. The material is interesting. I haven’t had peds clinical yet.
-My dad is not doing well...could be better, but it could be worse. I am trying to compartmentalize. Family’s leaving again for a month.
-I caught two colds back-to-back (super frustrating!) so I’m sick again right now. Booooo. C’mon, immunity! Kick butt!
-I’m supposed to be running a half-marathon in a week...lol, that’s going to be a disaster. I haven’t been training.
-Things with The Guy are fantastic. We’re planning a (10-hour?!) road trip for next month to go to a friend’s wedding. I’m excited (and a little nervous, but I think that’s normal) since that is an INTENSE amount of time together.
