#semi character analysis

ah this sounds fun hehe~Semi!

ooh, semi!! he has a v interesting backstory and i think he is not really considered that much in terms of his character!!

timeskip spoilers ahead lol

the reason i called his character interesting is because of his timeskip occupation. he completely drops volleyball and moves onto music. semi is a very skilled setter, apparently he was famous in middle school for his sets and got into a powerhouse school like shiratorizawa through a sport recommendation. semi clearly likes independently expressing his skills, as shown in his whole monologue about how serving was a way to do so because he wasn’t on the court any more. seeing this and how he turned to music after high school, i’m led to think that maybe volleyball was sort of an escape? furudate didn’t give any information on whether he has siblings or not, so if he does, i can see him as either the youngest or the middle child, with siblings that are widely successful and are constantly stealing his thunder. let’s imagine during his childhood semi was learning piano and guitar, and he was actually really good at it. all of a sudden his siblings come and show even better skill, and semi finds himself being outshined. semi turns to sports and discovers volleyball. volleyball becomes his outlet: he showed amazing skill in setting, becoming famous in middle school for his talent, and his siblings werent upstaging him anymore because they didn’t play volleyball. semi continues to succeed, getting a scholarship to shiratorizawa and becoming the starting setter. all seems to be going well until shirabu comes along. shirabu’s talent, once again, outshines semi’s own, and he finds himself left in the shadows. shirabu takes his place as the starting setter and semi’s left in the dust, almost identical to what happened with his siblings. semi is heartbroken and completely quits volleyball. music was his main and original source of comfort, so he turns back to that. so, two things can happen after this. 1: he starts producing music as a solo artist just for fun, to regain his footing after volleyball. one of his songs blows up and a record label notices him. he signs with them and then joins a band, and there we go, semi in a band. 2, my personal favorite: he produces solo music and gets big, but chooses to continue solo. this would match with his whole “being outshined” thing, as being an independent artist who gets big would be literal proof that he is skilled enough to be successful like his siblings are. so yea, semi supremacy hehe

Speaking of Chococat I love how his main thing is just like

Wanting to make people happy, but to a degree where it's not all that great

Like you'd vent to him about someone at school who annoys you and he'd say he's gonna scratch their face off for you in a fit of not knowing what else to say(Not even out of anger or anything, just straightup not knowing how to help you), and then feel pressured to actually go through with it despite not actually being that kinda person, so he just paints scratch marks on their face and hopes they got mauled by a rabid dog the day before
