Laughing about my own macabre puns like I have nothing else to laugh at *looks in the mirror* Ah, yes, that's another thing to laugh at.
- me in the 8th layer of meta-cognition: Well, that depressed fucker is attempting to have some fun down there. They will be sent a real rush of happy neurotransmitters as gift for their effort of "fake it til you make it".
- yepp, that's literally how it works for me - 'projection humor' - if there is nothing to laugh about, pretend there is. Use this very effective placebo whenever needed. Fooling your self-sabotaging mind is often the best option to help yourself get outta that hole if no other options are available and/or sufficient...
/having fun in the metascape/
So...
Or... I should add a little bit of specificity. When people open up the swear-cannon, the deluge of racist, sexist, sectarian abuse. I sometimes wonder what the microphone system actually adds to CoD at all, people use to cough, splutter, to bemoan their most recent death. To complain, to moan, to bitch, to rant. And to blame. Blame everything but themselves for what has befallen them in the preceding seconds of gameplay.
When in lobby and both teams can barrage each other with utter bullshit, I sit quietly and notice which names are using the most putrid language. And now, when I kill them (assuming I am on the other team) I get to hear seconds of their microphone. The two seconds in which the player is at their most angry, right after a death. What actual purpose does this mechanic serve other than to increase animosity between players? It gets me a little on edge, a little anxious and increases my anticipation of the extra abuse I might get after the round ends.
Basically, CoD puts me back in contact with the sort of people I spent my time in school avoiding and my life since school happy to have gotten away from. The sort of people who get very competitive over things that really don't matter, as though losing the game somehow impacts on their very being.
It stops me having fun. Well, until I mute them.
