she’s wrong tho, criteria for anorexia is bmi under 18.5. If higher it is Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified with tendencies towards anorexia.

to fuckyouitsmagic: oh thanks, I didn’t know that was one of the criteria! but basically my point was that anorexia is much more than just a health assessment of weight :)
This is what I found:
The severity of disease [anorexia nervosa] is based on body mass index (BMI) in adults with mild disease having a BMI of greater than 17, moderate a BMI of 16 to 17, severe a BMI of 15 to 16, and extreme a BMI less than 15.
Eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS in English terminology) include on the one hand situations similar to anorexia or bulimia but who lack one of the required criteria for the diagnosis and are therefore also called partial syndromes or disorders below threshold, on the other a number of other disorders that are still not completely defined and delineated.
Individuals with EDNOS usually fall into one of three groups: sub-threshold symptoms of anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, mixed features of both disorders, or extremely atypical eating behaviors that are not characterized by either of the other established disorders.
Anyway, this is internet knowledge as I’m not a doctor nor did I ever study all this. I should have checked the information before posting but even then internet can be deciving or fragmentary and sometimes even wrong.
That’s why I’d rather stay clear from such specific claimings as to not spread possible misinformation.
The point of my post was another and had to do more with the distorded message about body positivity that the media and internet has been spreading. I already stated that there are differences that should be taken into consideration even when talking about obesity and overweight so as to avoid generalizations.
As for the anorexia talking, I just used this extreme example to underline that you’d never use the image of an anorexic to spread the message of body positivity because you already know that it’s not healthy, same as obesity isn’t healthy, despite it being at the opposite side of the spectrum. So, I’m aware that both issues are different and have different causes and specifics, the point I was trying to makes is that, at the end of the day, both are detrimental for our health.
Hope I made it all the more clear.
