This rocket paper model is a R-7 Semyorka, a Soviet missile developed during the Cold War, and the world's first intercontinental ballistic missile, the paper model is created by Lars Folmann, and the scale is in 1:100.

To the West it was known by the NATO reporting name SS-6 Sapwood and within the Soviet Union by the GRAU index 8K71. In modified form, it launched Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite, into orbit, and became the basis for the R7 family which includes Sputnik, Luna, Molniya, Vostok, and Voskhod space launchers, as well as later Soyuz/L/U/U2/FG/2 variants. 56 years ago today, Sputnik 1 was launched! Here's to all of the brave men and women that kicked off the greatest race in human history, and to the rocket that still gets up there today.

October 4, 1957: Launch of Sputnik 1 aboard an R-7 Semyorka rocket from Baikonur. Sputnik 1 entered into an orbit with a 134 mile perigee, 584 mile apogee, 65.1° inclination, and a 96m 12s orbital period. The satellite transmitted a rhythmic carrier signal which could be modulated on the receiver end into the famous beeping sound we know today. More sounds from the first satellites.
