@teagrl was wondering if there was a map of Coruscant in this post about worldbuilding and, as far as I’ve been able to find (and I’ve definitely looked for this!) there’s no real map of the place, so we don’t know how close the districts are to each other! But I was doing some Googling again today and came across this article (which is more about asking the question of the Jedi Temple is the same as the Imperial Palace or if the Palace was a separate thing), which got me thinking and I went to grab some caps of the ROTJ celebration and did a really quick and dirty edit. It doesn’t line up super perfectly because it’s a moving pan shot, but you can see the Senate Building in the background on the right and the Jedi Temple in the background on the left. (Larger version here.) One theory is that there must have been a whole shitload of construction going on, to put up all those buildings, because this is how the Jedi Temple is often shown during the PT:
And it doesn’t seem like there’s much around it! But we never really see a super clear aerial shot that would show us if there’s more nearby, just not in that direction. (Bigger version here.) Let’s look at the Senate District from during the PT in comparison:
(Bigger version here.) A lot of those buildings look like they could be the ones we see in the above quick panstitch. The problem, of course, is that a lot of Coruscant buildings tend to look the same, they’re usually jagged or pill-shaped or sharp needle spires, so we can make some guesses, but it’s hard to find anything that lines up exactly, to find the Senate buildings and the Jedi Temple in the same shot. (In this image we see the Senate Office building, but in the panstich we don’t, so the angles are different, where the Senate Building sometimes blocks it. The Senate Building is the larger one, the Senate Office is the smaller one, where most Senators had their actual offices to do work in, rather than the giant meeting hall that was in the bigger one.)
