Ah I loved your breakdown of HoriMiya!! I just finished season 1 and I’ve started season 2.
It’s such a cute show, and I find it really cool that most of the conflicts end up getting resolved in the same episode, and it’s not left on the traditional cliffhanger. There’s nothing WRONG with a cliffhanger ending, but the change is nice for sure
Y E S. THIS. THEY 👏🏻 FUCKING 👏🏻 ATE👏🏻.
An anime I also fell in love with and would love reccomending to you, that combines romance and fantasy is Sugar Apple Fairy Tale.
Yes, we’re facing the oh so typical ‘main leads are too shy to say what’s on their mind so we drag the plot for 12 episodes instead of 3’ (unlike Hori who fired her shots immediately sksksks) but what’s interesting that this time, I can really feel it on Anne’s part. And that shifts the typical anime relationship dynamic a lot.
Anyone with eyes, INCLUDING CHALLE, can clearly understand that Challe isn’t much more than a manic pixie slut boyfriend running on coffee, remorse and deep existential crisis - anyone but Anne. I’m honestly astonished how fast Challe starts firing his best shots at Anne. I shall not gush about more details in case you haven’t seen it yet. 🤭
As of now, final season is due in early 2025, the whole dynamic between them is more or less:
Challe: You’re already basically my girlfriend, we are going to marry someday, I already planned everything like three million times, even written down the draft of our children’s names and I’ll be here until you realize. Until then, I shall do anything you even jokingly ask me to.
Anne, dumbfoundedly: Awww, you’re such a good friend.
That’s how I view their dynamics though. Everyone can interpret as they see fit, but in my eyes, they’re a liberating and lively change of pace. 🩷🌸
