my I love to hate them fave: Odin. Apparently in every major fandom there has to be someone who is supposed to be a good person but who is just utter shit at being a parent and it doesn’t get old pointing out all the ways that they fail. (Obligatory “John Winchester is a bad father.”)

my I hate to love them fave: I’m having a really hard time coming to terms with how much I care about Peter Quill.

my I wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire non-fave: Arnim Zola. NO ONE FUCKS WITH BUCKY.

my I didn’t care about them either way at first but the fandom makes such a big deal about them now I can’t stand them non-fave: I vacillate wildly back and forth between being really fond of Loki and screaming into the void, “OH MY GOD HE’S NOT THAT GREAT EVERYONE CALM DOWN.”

my I could take them or leave them kinda non-fave: Look I love Agents of SHIELD but if you asked me after Avengers I couldn’t have told you why the hell the fandom got so excited about Phil Coulson.

my I will go down with this ship and I won’t put my hands up and surrender, there will be no white flag above my door. I’m in love and always will be fave ship: Vintage Steve/Bucky. I have literally shed a silent tear in a room by myself nowhere near a computer because I just thought for too long about Bucky taking care of Steve and Steve inspiring Bucky and both of them being stupid baby bisexuals in love. Although I do also love me some present-day Steve/Bucky with its heavy helping of angst. Nat and Sam can come too.

my dirtybadwrong fave ship: man this is the second fandom that this question has stumped me. I guess I just ship without shame?

my they’re cute together and I dig them but I’m not all that terribly invested kinda fave ship: I really appreciated Nat/Clint based on their interactions in the first Avengers movie but since then it’s kind of felt like a pair-the-spares ship.

my MAKE IT STOP non-fave ship: I might have dug it otherwise but Age of Ultron just fucking buried Nat/Bruce for me.

I have questions! 1. Why'd you change the name of your fic to The Speed of Falling from A Nonlinear Trajectory? (don't answer that if spoilers) 2. When did you first have the idea for the fic? 3. How did you find the motivation to write 40+k? Did you ever have writer's block and what did you to to overcome it?

Great questions!

1) I realized that NLT wasn’t representative of the story and worked best as the title fo the first few drafts, but not the final story. 

2) The fic came from a prompt from the ill-fated DeanCas Exchange two summers ago. I was paired with a tumblr user that no longer exists, and it was the last of the three prompts she suggested which was “AU where Cas is a French Professor”. And it just went from there. Elements of the story were pulled from fics I wanted to write, but didn’t make it to a final version for whatever reason. But yeah, labor of love.

3) well, i decided that since the DCE didn’t happen that I’d make it a BigBang. So, I had a deadline I was motivated to meet. I hit over 20k and submitted it and it was rejected for, frankly, bullshit reasons. But I’m glad it was because the story is much better for more time.  I definitely had writer’s block and times where I couldn’t stand to look at it which is why it’s coming out now instead of 3 or 4 months ago when it arguably could have. Sticking to a 1k1hr schedule with friends like the one at 1k1h helped tons as did the wonderful friends who kept me accountable and asked about it when I went silent for too long (ceeainthereforthat especially, among others.) I wish I had a sure fire way to combat writer’s block because there were times I was just fucking sick of the story and needed a break, but also mostly just needed to muscle though and write it out to get to the good stuff that now remains. There’s probably a good handful of thousand words that got cut, whole scenes too, from the final draft that I’m just like BUT I EARNED THOSE WITH SWEAT AND TEARS. But they didn’t serve the story. So, good bye. Having a good writer friend you can bounce ideas off of, especially when you’re too close to the story to be objective/look outside of it is so key. They can help you ask the questions you haven’t realized you needed to think about that can tease out the core of what you want to work. Or they can call you out on being a lazy ass.

i did that a lot last year when i bookkeeped/had longer retail shifts and would read fic on my breaks/lunch. there's no wi-fi in the breakroom so i downloaded it all to my tablet ahead of time.

Yep, mine is mostly for subway rides, but also for ease of reading on my tablet.

Exactly. Sigh. I think I’ll probably end up going for it just because it’s ComicCon and if you’re going to make poor life choices based on a dumb spy movie then what better time?

Nah, if I’m going bald then I’m shaving my head. It doesn’t bother me; my hair grows fast. The question is more about aesthetics. I’m worried I’d look weird as a woman crossplaying with a chrome dome.
