There are times I feel like the very act of having a twitter account is an act of self-harm.

Like why do you intentionally expose yourself to lots and lots of petty annoyances and microaggressions a day?  The people I know who are most angry, miserable, and down on people (especially down on fandom people, though this goes well beyond that) are the people most on twitter.
