So I am a high school graduate now..
Are there any other Seniors out there who are sick and tired of being asked what you're gonna do with your life?! Like I freaking want to sleep for the rest of my life....
So after trying to get in touch with a girl who was never even going to be my roommate for three months, I get SPIRE and see that wow I have a new roommate! She actually has a Facebook profile and it's exciting but she's a senior? And I really hope she isn't crazy. I really really really hope she isn't crazy.
It's because I wear glasses, I think.
And then there's me wandering around with all these wants that people support to my face but probably scoff at in their minds. There's me with a lack of motivation and ability and sometimes it feels like there's a lack of talent too. There's a look of surprise and disappointment when they find out what my SAT score really is in comparison to what they expected and how I actually do in a lower level math class while their son or daughter excels in AP. Constantly lowering their high expectations.
And normally I would brush it off and recognize that in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter and that I mustn't compare myself to the people around me because we aren't the same, but that's what the college process is. It's literally thousands upon thousands of kids with varying GPAs, SAT scores, extracurriculars, and essays who are being compared to each other and only the best come out a winner. And while improbable, it gives me this overwhelming fear that I won't be accepted anywhere, that there is always going to be just the right number of kids who are better and smarter than I am, and that I'll have to start all over again. Where I go to school, college is like this big competition and everyone is always trying to one up each other in where they're applying or how many APs they're taking or how many academic awards they won.
But I don't want to compete. I just want an education and I want to be successful and happy doing what I like. But how will I ever do that if I'm simply not enough?
woah.
