Summary: Senku has been shot! In what he thinks are his final moments, his life flashes before his eyes.
W.C: 1.1K
Like lightning and thunder, Senku feels the piercing shock ripple through his body before he hears the gunshot. The bullet hurls at him—too quick to register—barely giving him time to pull the bag of flour and water to his chest as a shield, only to feel the crushing blow to his chest—his breath taken from him. He's launched into the air by the pressure of the blow, and it feels like an eternity that he's off his feet. His gaze locks onto the forest, and his mind goes a thousand miles per hour, thoughts of what's to come, whether or not he'll live. The pain from the bullet is temporarily numbed. His eyes snap upwards, and he sees the night sky. Stars and their constellations, and the moon. His father.
It feels like an eternity until his back collides with the ship's wooden deck, and the numbness and silence of it all come to a petrifying end. The pain crashes into him like an ocean current, seizing him entirely. The spasms and stinging paralyze his body, watery eyes helplessly staring into the sky above, as his arms lie by his side, no longer carrying his cracked shield.
Overdramatic as he is, Senku doesn't know which is worse: being shot in the upper abdomen or the fact that the cliché was actually true. That during the last moments—the final breaths of life—your life flashes before your eyes. If he could, if not for the pain, he would roll his eyes and laugh dryly at the thought, but he can't. Instead, with every heavy drag of his eyelids, he forces himself to keep them open, knowing what fate will wait for him if he decides to close them for even just a second.
Every blink plays a reel of memory that's been stored in his mind. As if the camera lens were smudged, the first reel that plays is fuzzy and out of focus, and he's not quite sure what he's looking at until Byakuya steps into the frame. The camera moves to stare up at him as if he were a giant, something Senku hadn't done since he was a child. His own hand reaches out for his father, and what he expects is his long, nimble fingers, but what he sees is the cherubic hands of a child.
His eyes snap open, coughing up blood that pools in his lungs. He's briefly pulled back to the present, gazing up at Taiju's wide, frightened eyes. Senku hadn't noticed then—only when Taiju's piercing scream filled his ears did he realize the silence that followed the echo of the gunshot. The silence was unnoticeable until all sound rushed back into his senses, accompanying the anguish of his body.
Senku can't quite make out the voices he's hearing. They all overlap with each other, along with the vibrations of the deck—the hurried, frantic steps of everyone rushing over to his side. Senku tries to speak to Taiju, only to cough out more blood and heighten Taiju's fear. His eyes feel heavy, and once more he's pulled back into a reel as his body is lifted off the ground carefully.
The memory that plays is clearer than the last and noticeably more vibrant. It plays more than just memories of Byakuya, but Taiju as well. He relives his childish curiosity, experimenting with things no child should. The memory plays and plays until two more bodies appear on the tape—Yuzuriha and you.
The tape gets stuck, and he's left staring at the first moment he laid eyes on you. Even though it's likely the fragments of bullets lodged in his chest are pressing against his lungs, his breath hitches. It gets caught in his lungs and throat, and, figuratively, in his heart. He analyzes every bit of your face, as if he hadn't done it already throughout the years he's known you. Blessed with your childish face frozen in time, he notices everything that's grown and matured with you. Things he hadn't taken into account until given the chance.
Change is inevitable, but some things don't change with time.
You're smiling at him, laughing uncontrollably when something smokes and implodes right in front of him, coating his face in smoke and soot. The tape slows and stops once more. Your smile hadn't changed at all. It's constant like Polaris. He can look up to the night sky and point out the North Star just as easily as he could find your smile among a crowd.
The conscience in his mind, controller of the reel of memories, as if to prove a point that your smile hadn't changed a bit, plays a montage of all the moments he's made you smile. Every experiment that's ever exploded in his face, causing his eyes to blink in a daze, you're laughing. Nights spent under the stars with the telescope that his father gifted him, while you're smiling at the stars. Days spent brushing against each other as Senku opened your world to the possibilities, sharing his love for science as the crinkles in your eyes deepened, the shine in your eyes paralleling the stars. Evenings spent in the science lab, washing glassware while talking about the mundane, were enough for you to bless him with the image that plays over and over.
Somewhere between all the memories of your lips pulling upward, revealing your laughter, and the shine in your eyes, it begins to flicker. It switches back and forth, and the soft sound, mixed with your laughter, turns into shouts and loud ringing in his ears. The image of you standing over him with tears welling up in your eyes is sharper than your smile. Your lips, which carried the smile he loves, tremble.
Something about being shot in the chest and having your life flash before your eyes really widens a man's eyes when it comes to love. It's hard to put into words, even more impossible to make sense of it if you weren't Senku. Like Sir Isaac Newton and gravity. Gravity has always existed; Newton didn't discover it himself when the apple fell. Senku always knew he loved you, but it took a bullet to his chest to actually fathom it.
Senku doesn't remember the last time he saw you cry, even with the tears and sobs spilling from you now. His arm moves easily to cup your face, the sensation of your tears rolling down his hand all too real.
I love you
Amidst all his thoughts, he had been brought back to reality. He had cupped your face and was whispering his confession to you weakly, with everyone watching.

If it was really that bad, I'd be cooked. I've been chugging that shit since I was able to draw a caffeine molecule from memory.
In all seriousness, drinking one monster energy is not gonna hurt you. As it is with pretty much anything you consume, it's all about moderation. Energy drinks is one of those things you should be more careful with, though, because at your age, your brain is going through some major development, so regular caffeine consumption can make its adverse effects like anxiety and insomnia way worse than it would be in a healthy adult. You're also more susceptible to addiction right now.
Just know your limits. Get a monster like once a week if you really want one and know you can handle it. You won't die.
