Is there anything better than a live band? Anything better than a soul (slash), jazz (slash), gospel (slash), R&B group whose voices aim straight for the heart and do not miss? Of course not! Absolutely nothing is better than Sensere, a crew of gentlemen who have raised the bar of what cool is! Their new project, Kingdom Therapy, is perfectly titled (although Kingdom Kool would’ve been nice too...or maybe not). No Lie, one of songs in this collection of sure classics, is a favorite of mine. It starts with a lively, upbeat hook which goes,
No lie, when He said He would save you
No lie, everything in the Bible in red was
No lie, God will hold on to His word
And if He said it, believe it, it’s already done
Right off the bat, they are making it plain. Letting us know that the Bible is true and we can stand on what it says in faith. Amen! The first verse seamlessly transitions into a jazzy horn-infused, melody which declares,
God’s not a man, He can’t lie
His word won’t return void
I strive every day to become more like Him
Everything that He said, it was
I can always depend on God
And that’s why I know my God is no…
Yes, you guessed it! Right back into that hook! Listen...when I say I love that part...you just don’t understand! It’s so encouraging to be reminded that God’s word will NOT RETURN VOID. How liberating to know that we can, as it says, “…always depend on God”. Verse two is SO good also, boasting one of the best lines in the song, “All my trust is in you, man couldn’t satisfy all my needs…” Yes! Mixed with the backing vocals and the CRAZY production, this song is TDF (to die for)! It ends with just under a minute of outstanding instrumentation. Well Done Gentlemen!
*Note - Ok so, since the name of the song is No Lie, I must come clean and admit that I am not 100% sure of the exact structure of this song (i.e. verses, bridge, etc…). It doesn’t matter though. ITS ALL GOOD! It’s like a potpourri of fragrances, you may not be able to identify each and every ingredient but it smells amazing! Check it out and experience it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed!
