RFA+SV - sensitive MC cries because of a book
I’ll be a little flexible with this, because I wanted to tie in actual books with different MCs. And the sad part isn’t always at the end.
SPOILER ALERT because I’m referencing books! I’ll mention the title with the person…but yeah. You’ll know that something tragic happens. So.
snAPE KI-
Zen - “Your Lie in April” (manga)
he’s a little confused, because every time he saw MC before, she was happy or squee-ing while reading the manga
but now she’s always crying
always
always crying
Is so concerned, after a while
“Babe…what’s wrong?”
“She…she…!”
MC bursts out crying, again.
He has to cuddle her. He has to.
She’s so cute.
“The lie was not that she wasn’t sick! That was not her lie in April!”
He doesn’t understand, but he helps her grieve, wrapping her in soft blankets and cuddling her
Has found yet another sweet side to his MC
Yoosung - “Where the Red Fern Grows”
she loves animals, so this one hits her where it hurts
Yoosung just walks in and finds her softly weeping over fictional dogs
he tries to comfort her, but because he hasn’t read the book, he doesn’t really get it
so he reads the book
He’s a smart dude; he can read quickly.
This should help him understand MC better, right?
So he finishes the book.
But now there are two softly weeping cuties
hot cocoa and soft tissues all around.
Jaehee - “Little Women”
She’s read the book, already, so she sees it coming
she just didn’t expect crying
“Why is it always the sweet ones? Why!?”
Finds it endearing that MC cares
Offers MC a warm hug and patience in letting her grieve
Jumin - “So You Want to be a Wizard” by Diane Duane
MC introduces Jumin to the world of fictional writing
she thought it would be funny, so she started reading it
he thinks it’s silly, but he wants to read it, too
They read it together, a chapter or two just before bed
She likes the plucky characters, and he likes the scientific kind of magic it portrays.
They both end up falling deeper into it.
And then…that ending.
Jumin is genuinely touched, but he’s a bit surprised to see that MC is crying.
“Darling, they aren’t real.”
“But…they felt so real…!”
A bit confused, because he knows MC understands the difference between reality and fantasy, but then, he’s not used to reading fiction.
She tries to explain how well-written things can help readers develop a special sort of emotional attachment.
But also, she is crying, so her explanation kind of suffers for it.
Jumin sort of understands; he just can’t relate.
But it’s just like his wife to be so sensitive about it.
He finds himself admiring it.
Saeyoung - “Charlotte’s Web”
Can’t help teasing her when she starts crying
“It’s a spider.”
“A really smart spider. This spider can read and write.”
“It’s not real!”
“THESE TEARS ARE REAL.”
but he knows how it ends, so he hopes she’ll cheer up from the ending
instead, he finds her curled up on the couch, crying harder
“Angel! Why?! It was a happy ending!”
“THAT’S WHY I’M CRYING.”
He’s a bit of an S and she is a bit of an M, apparently…I guess they balance each other out?
He finds it cute, but a little silly.
Tries to make her laugh, after. He doesn’t like to see her sad, even if it’s for fictional animals.
V - “Allegient” by Veronica Roth
She’s crying, but it’s a little strange
MC really seems like a friend of hers has died.
She really seems like she’s grieving.
V’s rather concerned; she’s taking the ending way harder than he expected.
“You don’t atone in death! You atone in life!”
V tries to support MC as best as he can.
The problem is that neither of them understand why she’s crying so hard; MC doesn’t, either
Maybe because she didn’t see that ending coming?
Maybe because she didn’t think the ending was fair?
Or maybe…there’s another reason?
Saeran - “Le Petit Prince”
He notices her staring off into space, tears slowly flowing
He’s very concerned, but then she explains that it’s because of a book, and he relaxes a bit
“It’s a kid’s book.”
“It’s a surprisingly heavy kid’s book.”
“…it’s like 50 pages long.”
“Heavy content…surprisingly heavy content…”
He’s a little weirded out, but he lets her have her moment. Kisses her forehead and gives her her space.
She always was a sensitive thing. If she weren’t, she would never have connected with him.
He’s sceptical, but when she isn’t looking, he reads the book, himself.
She catches him when he’s done; he’s not crying, but now he’s staring into space, the finished book held absently in his hands.
“This was a deep book.”
“Right?”
