Shogo Lee (Earth-13729 or Earth-TRN421)
Many might know that Jubilee’s baby, Shogo, required some protection during his mom’s adventures. Fewer know that in a couple different realities, he’s the future X-Men’s equivalent of Iron Man.
In the 25 Years Later timeline from the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, Baby Shogo Lee grew up to be a part of the X-Men. Little is known about how he came to pilot the super-suit he uses, nor its full potential.
While he has only appeared in a few comic book arcs, he appears to have been well-received in small doses and probably presents fertile ground for more storytelling from future writers.
Shogo is better known as Jubilee’s baby. She would be a higher priority for addition to any Marvel Games title. She is not in MCOC as of this writing.
It is hard to say whether Shogo would be the most popular member of his particular Future X-Men team (there are more than one). His teammates include Future Colossus (who has a fu manchu and the Soul Sword), Old Man Iceman, Kymaera, Phoenix (Quentin Quire), and a few others.
Sentinel X: Disambiguation
There have been at least two other Sentinels X. One is a Forge creation inhabited by Nimrod; another is the actual Sentinel that Trinary converted into a transport and pseudo-member of X-Men Red.
Outlook for Marvel Contest of Champions
Shogo’s Sentinel-tech Iron-Man-like suit and membership in Future X-Men presents some interesting possibilities.
There are several super-suit characters in Marvel Contest of Champions already. Typically these are humans with no superpowers but a keen technological aptitude that allowed them to invent or augment a powered super-suit.
Shogo is apparently clever enough to pilot a super-suit. By his name and its appearance, one presumes it is made from Sentinel (nano?-)technology and operates similarly to Iron Man’s propulsion/repulsers setup.
His membership in an X-Men team poses an interesting question: is he a mutant? Does he have mutant powers? Probably the answer is no, but it’s still an intriguing piece for MCOC purposes.
Unique: Sentinel-Tech Super-Suit
There are several Sentinel-technology humanoid robots or cyborgs, but Shogo appears to be the only non-Sentinel piloting (again like Iron Man) a suit made from Sentinel materials.
Marvel Video Game Appearances
Sentinel X (Shogo Lee) appeared in the deep Marvel mobile game X-Men: Battle of the Atom, a deck-building card game on an app. An MCOC champ release would apparently be his first Marvel Games appearance as an animated character.
If you like MCOC Sentinel and MCOC Iron Man (Infinity War), or even the abilities of the classic MCOC Iron Man, you see the possibilities here. Combine AI Learning damage and accuracy reduction with Auto-Block and Power Gain and Arc Overload, and you have an interesting champ.
He would be particularly unique if he lands in the Mutant class, though it would probably be comics inaccurate if he did. The Tech class would make much more sense since it appears Shogo merely built himself an Iron-Man-esque suit out of Sentinel technology.
Synergies with Jubilee, Sentinel, Colossus, Iceman, Magik would make sense based on the fictional character’s relationships.
Sentinel X (Shogo Lee) and Summoners
As of this writing, he is too obscure for Summoners. There are no requests on the message boards, Twitter, or other social media.
However, on the strength of Summoner voting, he managed to join the Elite Eight (out of more than 100 contending Marvel characters) in the 2020 Tournament Of Battlerealm Future: March Addness polling game on Twitter. Each member of the Elite Eight were qualified for the MCOC Wishlist Poll. (In the tournament, he beat out the Runaways’ Victor Mancha, the Sentinel tech villain Bastion, the Marvel UK monster-cyborg Death Wreck, and Ragnarok, the Dark Avengers’ version of Thor.)
(As of this writing, Sentinel X (Shogo Lee) has just been added to the MCOC Wishlist Poll, so he does not yet have Summoner votes there.)
Update Summer 2022: Shogo did seemingly pretty well in his initial stint on the MCOC Wishlist, staying in the top 200-250 for a while with a positive vote balance. But he eventually fell to the mid-300s in rank and now has more downvotes (112) than upvotes (90). As a very obscure character without overwhelming support after two years of voting, he will be a candidate for delisting during this Summer’s cleanup effort by the Wishlist editorial team.
