Lab time and fruit flies - one of the few good moments of the week
Genetics class at the lab has been suprisingly awesome so far. Who'd have thought that separating fruit flies by phenotype and counting all of them would be so oddly fascinating? (Yes, I'm weird, and that's probably the reason.) Got almost 500 flies counted and "labeled" last Wednesday, 6 flasks worth of them. And for the 3 hours and a half or so I spent at the lab I was calm and entertained, even with my shaky hands (lab-specific phenomenon, likely anxiety).
Sometimes, when you start doubting your own future in the science area (due to numerous incidents and comments over the years, not a one-time thing), it's heartwarming to have a moment like this. Even if it's just counting flies, I don't even care. I was happy with the way work was going that afternoon and evening, and that's what matters.
