On the separation policy and congressional “action”
If you are in the US, do NOT doubt that with this human rights violation of separating children from parents at the border, that these “attempts” by congress to fix it are a way of weaponizing the public outcry.
Republicans hold both houses of congress. If they REALLY didn’t like it they could pass a clean bill that ONLY addressed this despicable policy, and do not doubt, it’s a policy, not a law.
But no, they’re talking “immigration reform,” with huge money for a border wall, a crackdown on LEGAL immigration, and a couple tokens on DACA and of course this horrid policy of yanking kids from parents.
They’re NOT reaching out to democrats for a bipartisan deal. The “compromise” deal, is between factions WITHIN the republican party.
And what happens when democrats are forced to vote ‘no’ because how bad some of the other stuff in these bills are?
In 3-4 months there will be a wave of political ads decrying democrats for “voting no” on protecting families at the border, without any mention of these other elements to these bills.
How do I know this will happen? Because it’s happened before, over and over. This is a common political tactic, couch the source of public outcry in something despicable, then point out that the opponent voted against it (for the reasons that the surrounding garbage was horrible)
Make no mistake, no matter whether these bills pass or fail, it’s a “win” for republicans. If they pass but without a lot of democrat votes they can hold up the dems as being against families, and if they fail they can cry obstructionist.
And the whole time, the autocratic-wannabe at the top can stop this with a single pen, because it was his order that CAUSED this mess.
This is a manufactured crisis to score political points.
