“What do you think of this dress? Does it make me look fat? I feel like I’m dressing two young for a mom of baby twins…” Vera asks as she emerges from the walk-in closet in a light blue and white floral dress that stops just above mid-thigh and has spaghetti straps. Sephiroth looks up at her from where he lies on the bed in a t-shirt and boxers, reading the news on his phone.
“It’s pretty short…Your boobs look like they’ll pop out. No, you don’t look fat.” He says honestly, looking her up and down with a critical eye. She groans but nods in agreement.
“It is really tight on my chest…Ughh!!! I don’t know what to wear! I’m seeing my best friend for the first time since our wedding, and I’ve had twins!!”
“Yes. I’m aware of that. I had to watch you push one out and then be cut open for the second one,” Sephiroth says sarcastically, earning an eye roll from Vera. “Just wear something comfortable, and not tight on your chest or stomach.” She sighs and disappears back into the closet.
“Sephiroth…Can I just wear one of your shirts? It’ll be so much easier.” He sighs, gets off the bed, puts his phone down, and enters the closet to see her looking through his shirts.
“No. If you wanted help putting together an outfit, you could’ve just asked my dear. Here, you can wear this sweater and these jeans, and hold the jeans up with this belt. Oh, also, you can wear your hoop earrings because then they match the silver belt buckle.” He says confidently, picking the items off the hooks and out of the drawers before laying them on the bed, then looking back at her. Vera smiles happily and stands on her tippy toes before wrapping her arms around his neck.
“This is another reason why I love you. I’d be here for hours trying to find something good.” He hums and smirks slightly before wrapping his arms around her waist.
“I know. What would you ever do without me?” She smiles back up at him before pecking his lips. When she pulls away, he purses his lips out into a pout and whines, “I wanted a better one.”
“I’ll give you a better one if we manage to leave this house on time. Angeal said they were coming to watch the twins, right?” Sephiroth nods and checks his phone.
“They should be here in two minutes.”
“Then you should get dressed.” She says cheekily before landing a solid slap to Sephiroth’s ass. He whips around so quickly that Vera doesn’t have time to get to the closet. He reaches out and squeezes both of her sides, making her shriek and jump away. She giggles and tries to run to the closet, but Sephiroth blocks her and wraps his arms around her stomach, lifting her into the air. As Vera struggles to escape her husband, the doorbell rings, making them both stop in their tracks. “You go answer.” She whispers, finally slipping out of his arms and grabbing the clothes off the bed. Sephiroth sighed and grabbed a pair of pants before going downstairs to answer the door for Angeal and Genesis.

“They aren’t here yet. Rena says they’re waiting on Kuja.” Vera sighed as she put her phone back down in her purse. Sephiroth rolls his eyes and looks at her instead of the TV, playing hockey.
“They were almost late to our wedding, too.” He points out. She sighs and sips her glass of orange juice.
“Rena was never good about getting anywhere on time anyway.” The couple talks for a bit longer until Rena and Kuja finally arrive. “Rena!! Oh, it’s so nice to see you!!” Vera says happily as she and Sephiroth step out of the booth to greet them. Sephiroth gives Kuja a stiff handshake and a silent nod, as Rena and Vera embrace.
“Yes!! I missed you so much!! Oh wow!! You look great for having twins!” Rena compliments her as they pull away from the hug.
“Awh, you’re too sweet. I love your outfit!!”
“Thanks! I just thrifted these—the bracelet I’ve had for a while.” Rena says as they look at the clothes. Rena is wearing a grey flannel with a graphic t-shirt, black jeans, and a studded belt that matches the bracelet. Kuja smiles proudly and puts his arm around Rena’s shoulders.
“I helped pick out the belt. It’s so shiny and beautiful!” Vera nods in agreement with him.
“Yes! And you went all out on the makeup!” Kuja smirks and bats his mascara-filled eyelashes.
“Thank you for noticing! I do apologize for making us so fashionably late.” Vera waves her hand dismissively, saying it wasn’t a big deal. Both couples sit back down, and Vera remembers that Kuja and Sephiroth haven’t adequately met before.
“Sephiroth, you remember Rena, and this is their partner, Kuja! If you remember from the wedding a few years back, Kuja, this is my husband, Sephiroth.” Kuja nods, the feathers in his hair bouncing with the movement.
“Yes! Yes! It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sephiroth. Oh, I heard you two had kids?” Sephiroth nods silently again as Vera beams with a massive smile.
“Yep!! Two twin boys! They are the cutest little things!” She pulls her phone from her purse and shows Kuja and Rena multiple pictures of the boys. “The bigger boy on the right is Seth. He’s two minutes older than the little boy on the left, who is Sam!” Both Rena and Kuja awh at the pictures of the tiny boys before Kuja asks,
“Are they as nice as they look?” Vera laughs aloud while Sephiroth chuckles.
“Oh no, no, no. They may look so cute and sweet, but oh my god. I haven’t gotten a full night’s sleep in almost a month! Hell, Seth eats so much I swear he’s got a grown man’s stomach!!” As the waitress arrives, Kuja and Rena look concerned but can’t say anything to each other. Kuja ordered a watermelon margarita, much to Rena’s dismay, as they ordered water.
“Kuja, what did I say about ordering alcohol so early in the morning?” Rena scolds after the waitress leaves the table.
“I know you told me not to, but it’s classic to drink at brunch and gossip!! Plus! It’s five o’clock somewhere!” Kuja explains happily as Rena sighs and rolls their eyes.
“So…Anything big happening in your lives?” Vera asks, trying to break the slight quiet tension. Kuja smiles happily and giggles under his breath.
“Actually, yes!! A few days ago…Rena proposed to me!!” Kuja claps his hands together and bounces in his seat in excitement.
“Woah!!! Congrats!!! Can I see your rings??” Vera asks with an excited gasp. Kuja nods and happily holds out his hand. On his slender ring finger sits a tear-drop-shaped amethyst surrounded by multiple tiny diamonds. Kuja quickly grabs Rena’s hand and puts it beside his to show both rings. A matching tear-drop amethyst on Rena’s ring finger, darker in color. Vera gasps at the beauty of the rings and gently pats their hands.
“Oh, I’m so proud of you guys!! When is the wedding?”
“We haven’t quite decided yet, but…” Kuja trails off, looking at Rena and waiting for them to say something. Rena takes a big breath and looks at Vera apprehensively.
“Vera…Will you be…My maid of honour?” Rena asks with bated breath. The air gets thick as the group waits for Vera’s answer.
“OH MY GOSH!! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!” Vera squeals in excitement. “OH YES I WOULD LOVE TO BE YOUR MAID OF HONOUR!! THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO ME, THANK YOU, OH MY GOSH!!!” Kuja and Rena smile happily, both of them beaming.
“You can be a groomsman if you’d like!” Kuja mentions to Sephiroth. Sephiroth merely shrugs but nods.
“Sure, why not?”
“So, are you two going to live together now?” Vera asked after everyone had ordered their food.
“Mhm! Rena has already started moving into my mansion!”
“Whoah, woah. What?! Mansion!? I didn’t know you guys had so much money!”
“Well, I’ve had a lot because of my inheritance from my father. I’ve kept that amount up and have lived comfortably since.” Kuja explains while sipping his margarita.
“Good for you guys! We live in a pretty decent home. I mean it’s not a mansion, but we all have enough space to be by ourselves when needed!”
“See, that’s what I’ve had my entire life. It’s so weird for me to be in such a big house all the time. Hell, Kuja barely uses all of the rooms in the mansion.” Rena pipes up to explain their point of view on the mansion and thoughts about living there.
“Oh come on!! I just haven’t decided what to do with them yet!!” Kuja pouts
Eventually, the brunch double date ends on high spirits. Both couples are happy and leave with full stomachs. Rena and Kuja return to their hotel for the rest of their vacation while Vera and Sephiroth go home to deal with their boys.
