A lot of you have been living in a way that is heavily influenced by what others expect from you; this can be family, friends, classmates, colleagues, or even just the general culture of the smaller groups you are part of, such as your school, your studies, or the environment you spend most of your time in. You might not even fully realise how much this has influenced you because for a long time it has felt normal, almost logical to adapt yourself to it all. In the upcoming year however, there is going to be a shift in how you view this. You will start noticing moments in which you feel resistance; small moments at first, like questioning why you dress a certain way, speak in a certain tone, or agree with things you do not actually agree with. This is not going to be some dramatic rebellion where you cut everyone off or suddenly become a completely different person, it is much more subtle than that. It is you slowly allowing yourself to think: do I actually want this? or am I just doing this because it is expected of me here? This can show up especially in environments like school or work, where there often is a very specific unspoken culture that everyone is supposed to fit into. For many of you this year will be about choosing yourself a bit more, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
