"𝓣𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓴 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝓫𝓮𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓪 𝓯𝓻𝓲𝓮𝓷𝓭…" Happy 40th Anniversary to the beloved and iconic sitcom The Golden Girls which debuted on NBC on September 14th, 1985. An instant hit that consistently won its Saturday night time-slot during the course of its seven seasons, tackled various, still relevant, social issues with heart and gentle humor, and remained in the top ten for almost the entirety of its run, the show was nominated for 68 Emmy Awards across various categories with Betty White winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1986, Rue McClanahan winning the same award in 1987, and Bea Arthur winning the following year in 1988. Fittingly, as Estelle Getty and Bea portrayed mother-daughter on The Golden Girls, Estelle won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1988, the same year Bea won for Outstanding Lead. The Golden Girls also won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in both 1986 and 1987. Additionally, the show racked-up 21 Golden Globe Award nominations with four wins, including Best Television Series-Musical or Comedy in 1986, 1987 and 1988, and Best Actress – Television Series, Musical or Comedy for Estelle Getty in 1986 (in an unusual occurrence, all four actresses were nominated in the same category that year). Though Betty, Bea, Rue and Estelle have all since passed away, they remain loved and adored around the world and live on in re-runs of what was arguably one of the greatest American sitcoms of the 20th Century. The video below, cleverly edited to feature the stars singing the memorable theme song using clips from the show, is a fun and fitting tribute to the series.❤️
