Since today is national gf day, this is an open letter and thank you to all of my platonic friends of the opposite sex who’ve been helping me the past month putting up with my half drunk/sobbing post break up crisis while driving home from parties on saturday nights as I howl into my speaker and speed my ass home on the freeway to days where I completely feel empty and sometimes anxious, thank you thank you thank you you guys all know who you are and I want and wish to show my tremendous gratitude to you all for being part of my life THANK YOU !!!!!! (and by the way you guys should follow them cause they fuckin rock)

no but like srsly. i have like 1 friend from back home i still talk to. hahaha so really nothing here for me except her, parents, and then my homeroom advisor from high school. do you still miss providence when you go back home for break?

I still do! But not to the same extent. My first semester of college was definitely an amazing experience and quite unlike anything I had in high school and I craved more of that.

Not to say that Brown has lost its attraction for me because I’ve been here for longer though; I truly don’t see myself at any other school (or at least most. I haven’t considered ALL other schools) and am so thankful for the way that Brown has shaped me and helped me in creating my own person. However, I do think that being at school is really overwhelming sometimes, especially this past semester where I struggled internally with a lot of tough questions that didn’t necessarily have right answers, so I’m glad for break to be here so I can have a brief respite from the busyness of classes, extracurriculars, and social activities and devote time to just thinking about issues that have always gnawed at me and figuring out where I want to go from here and how I see myself in the world.

That was really abstract and personal, but I think the point is valid for a lot of people: we all miss Brown when we’re not there, but home has its comforts too.
