Various Artists - Scratchology [2003, Sequence Records]
Not to be confused with Scratchology: Mixed By The X-Ecutioners (though they reused the same artwork and slapped a sticker on the corner to explain the difference), Scratchology is a collection of tracks selected by the X-Ecutioners as being of historical importance to the history of DJs.
They begin in the mid-'70s, with Grandmaster Flash's free-flowing mixes, nod to Grand Wizzard Theodore's discovery of the scratch technique, and the popularity-exploding electrofunk of Herbie Hancock's "Rockit"; further into the '80s with Mixmaster Gee & The Turntable Orchestra, DJ Cash Money & Marvelous, 3rd Bass, Davy DMX, Public Enemy (remixed by Pete Rock), and a Gang Starr track highlighting DJ Premier; then into the 'modern' turntablism of the X-Ecutioners themselves, Dilated Peoples (with DJ Babu), D-Styles, and DJ Q-Bert.
It's a respectable collection that touches on some important pieces, but as the liner notes acknowledge, it's simply too short to provide a comprehensive rundown. As an introductory primer, though, it does quite well.
Were Dear Bitch signed to Sequence?
I always thought Ayame distributed all of their, and Missa's, cds through Scarlet Club unless he just used Sequence Records to reach a larger audience.
