∗ o8﹕ sender shows up at receiver’s home late at night .
she’s settled into bed when her phone buzzes on the nightstand, light flooding the master bedroom. rava blinks a few times, debates ignoring it before it buzzes again/ she sits up, shrugging her blanket off of her shoulders to grab it, met with he glaring light of a family photo, @sequnda and the kids’ smiling faces shining back at her. she rubs the sleep from her eyes, running a hand through her hair. she thinks for a moment that maybe he locked himself out, it doesn’t occur to her that she hadn’t thought to tell kendall when she changed the locks on the apartment, meant to give him a key for emergencies, to mention it or having him drop by to pick them up, or even have jess do it.
rava pulls herself from the comfort of her bed, padding barefoot against the cold hardwood floors, she makes her way through the apartment clad only in a shirt that has become more her’s than his in the last fifteen years, but stops just before she gets to the front door, just before she twists the lock, seeming to remember he doesn’t live with her anymore. she opens the door anyway, worry lingering in her features : wonders if something is wrong. so much has happened in the last few months, and kind nature says she needs to make sure he’s okay.
“ hey. ” rava murmurs as she opens the door, leaning against the frame, blocking his way in. “ it’s late, ken . . . the kid’s are asleep. ” she isn’t welcoming him in, but she isn’t telling him to leave either. rava looks at him now, focuses her gaze on his features, studying him carefully as if she can pick apart why he’s here without asking, just by looking at him. ( or maybe she’s looking for a sign, bloodshot eyes or a twitch she knows will be there. ) “ you okay ? ”

rava has always followed routine, it makes her life as well as the life of her kids, especially iverson, easier. ( that is not to say she is against spontaneity. she loves a surprise just as much as the next person. ) the day begins at 5:30am, she is an early bird in every sense of the word, but she also just likes to have time to herself, she drinks her first cup of coffee and rava is a morning shower person, it’s a good way to wake up. she is dressed and waking the kids by 6:25. the kids go to school with the nanny, and rava goes in a different car to work.
8am-5pm, she follows a neat schedule at work on good days she takes her hour lunch outside the office, ( she has worked from home a handful of times before when the kids are sick, or something in kendall’s world is affecting her own, though she doesn’t need to. ) usually she will get a call from jess or kendall about ken’s schedule for the weekend: pickup/drop-off for the kids.
then it all goes in a rush, home, dinner, news with the kids ( probably PGM, certianly not ATN. ) the kids are in bed by 9 and lights out is at 9:30. though rava herself is usually up far later than that.
bonus routine thoughts.
- weekends rava is up by 7, and the kids by 8-9:30. ( this is one of the reasons rava upon staying at ken’s for the night, is so quick to leave. ) the nanny can wake the kids, but rava is used to doing it, and she prefers to do it, or at least to be there when they get up. she enjoys having meals with them in the morning, and will often ask how they want to spend the day.
- there was a certain amount of loungey-ness lost during the separation, i think rava is very strict with herself on what time she needs things to be done by, and on weekends the kids aren’t around she is more likely to stay in bed until 10, and then go for a run before starting the day.
- there are things she doesn’t have to really think about, or do such as grocery shopping, or cooking, though she cooks twice a week anyway, and uses it as a chance to teach the kids. ( usually weekends. )
folder is plucked from the table, and rava presses her lips together in a thin line. it’s a look that asks : can’t we reschedule ? she often tries to be reasonable, or at least she tries not to be unkind to @sequnda . but she has her own job ( which she feels he often forgets about ) as well as a million other things to worry about : soph has a science fair coming up, and iverson’s adjusting to a new tutor. rava sighs, palm pressing to her forehead, and takes a deep breath, lets it out, careful not to reveal her frustration.
