Thoughts on the Final Fantasy XIII series?
I have played very little of any of the Final Fantasy 13 games. I played a demo for 13-2, and I played a demo for Lightning Returns that I never even finished.
I watched The Pokecapn Crew (The Posse) play through all of 13-2 and most of Lightning Returns. Memories are distant and vague, as Let’s Plays are just as often background noise as they are things I sit down and focus my attention on. One particular line always stood out to me as being particularly dumb in 13-2: “I wonder if he can’t remember the future?”
Like, what is that. What does that mean. What are you even saying.
To me, those games represent Final Fantasy at its worst. Perfect hair, perfect clothes, perfect stereotypes, and endless amounts of worthless, stupid jargon and empty, navel-gazing plot. Final Fantasy, as a concept, extrapolated down to such a pure extreme that it becomes its own niche. The Most Final Fantasy You Could Possibly Be, all the way to the point where that becomes a bad thing.
I’m curious to one day play the original Final Fantasy 13 some day, but there are too many other RPGs out there to play first.
