Mh, okay. Instead of doing the whole weird Owl thing, Lilith casts a timeloop spell, setting Jon back to the moment he escaped from Edom. Only that due to the nature of Jon’s death - what with Jace killing him - it transports them both back.
The first time around, it still ends in murder. And again.
They both individually try to change things, but every time one of them dies, it sets back. Over the many, many timeloops, the two reluctantly grow closer as they talk, as they only have each other as confidance because no one else remembers the timeloops. They share things, talk.
And then they break it, when they start working together to take down Valentine.
