Throwing a theory out to why Snow could understand Jiminy with or without his gramophone. She talks to animals, same for Red. They could probably understand him
That’s a very good point, and one I can definitely get behind! But we haven’t seen it on the show. Yet, anyways. Though it’s quite possible (probable, even!) that he doesn’t need it to speak to Snow or Red, Jiminy has always been shown to wear / use a translator.
Also, my personal theory is that Grumpy is the only dwarf who can understand Jiminy without his translator - because of the fairy dust Nova spilled on his egg before he hatched. :P
Summary: Henry and Grace call together their family members to launch a special operation entitled Operation Mad Star. But Neal also has a little surprise in store for his long-time love, Emma. SwanFire Secret Valentine Entry.
Secret Valentine: serenasailormoonfan
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters, just the plot. This is an entry for the SwanFire Secret Valentine thing, for my SF Valentine, serenasailormoonfan. :) I hope you like it!
Emma couldn't help the smile on her face when she saw him there, leaning against the bug like he used to. In the same spot as well. She walked across the street to join him at the car and leaned against it as well, next to him.
“So, what has our child come up with this time? And why is it named Operation Mad Star?” Emma asked, pecking him on the cheek .
“Oh your guess is as good as mine dear swan. He just told me to meet him here at this time.” Neal replied, putting an arm around her waist and pulling her closer.
“Name pun. Funny.” Emma commented, giving him a mock glare.
“You loved it when we first rode around together.” Neal commented, giving his girlfriend a playful smile.
“Yeah, and I was 17 then. Didn’t know any better.” Emma said, looking anywhere but at him, a smile on her lips.
“Oh I’ll say. I heard you took up with this guy, a criminal. Thief. No good. Kids, they really don’t know any better do they?”
“Oh no they don’t. And the age difference, man that was a doozy. Over 270 years. But he was quite spry for an old man. When we’d run from stores we stole from he was right behind m…Neal stop!” Emma laughed as Neal tickled her, momentarily distracted. Granny, walking on the other side of the street with Ruby, smiled at them while Ruby took a photo with her phone, also smiling. Everyone loved the reunited couple. It brought some light to the town. “Ah! I give! I give! Uncle! I’m sorry, I’ll stop talking about how you’re an old man.” Neal raised an eyebrow at her unbelievingly. “For now.” Smirking at her now head shaking boyfriend, Emma turned to see their son crossing the road and coming towards them.
“Hey mom, hey dad.” he said , taking his now appointed spot by the front of the car.
“Hey? Our son is 13 now and he says hey. Is your family sure about the royalty thing or…?” Neal teased, earning him a pinch from his blond love.
“I dunno, shouldn’t your side have the good grammar gene too, oh son of Rumpelstiltskin? Names are a forte with you guys.” Emma quipped.
“Ah, well Papa is only Shakespearean level eloquent as the Dark One, I spent over 100 years on an island with my crazy grandfather and a bunch of young boys. Grammar is good, but I get a pass on eloquent. Any and all impressions that we are otherwise is all due to my lovely step-mother.” Neal defended.
“She told me I could call her Grandma Belle.” Henry put in, smiling. Emma and Neal smiled back. Everyone was finally getting their happy endings.
“So, kiddo, what is it you wanted to talk to us about? What is Operation Mad Star?” Emma asked, eying her son. Henry grinned.
“Well mom, I’m glad you asked. Operation Mad Star is the name Grace and I gave the putting together of DwarfStar.”
“Dwarf…Star?” Emma asked, eyeing her child suspiciously.
“Nova and Grumpy?” Neal ventured.
“Dad’s got it.” Henry said, smiling at his father. Neal smiled smugly.
“What?” Emma looked at her men, confused.
“It’s a ship name.” Neal explained. “ A relationship is also known as a ship, and the people who like the two together are known as shippers.” When Emma raised an eyebrow at him, he sighed “I…would get really bored in Manhattan sometimes okay? I watched a lot of TV and …yeah. Internet. It happens.”
“ What are we called?” Emma ventured, looking at her son.
“ Oh uh…” Henry blushed.
“Oh come on kid, the son of the Dark One and the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming? We have a ship name. What is it?”
“SwanFire.” Henry mumbled.
“SwanFire?” Neal repeated, amused.
“ Emma Swan and Baelfire. Cute. So what is this plan of yours and Grace’s?” Emma turned towards him, still smiling.
“Okay, well…” Henry began.
It was four hours later, a few white lies, a steel bar and some chocolate later that Operation Mad Star came to it’s climax. Nova and Grumpy banged their arms against the door to Grace’s walk in closet at her house loudly, much to the amusement of the occupants down stairs.
“Now, Grace, love, you’ll let them out before Grumpy breaks the door down right? I’d rather not see that door broken, I carved it myself.” Jefferson asked his daughter, amused.
“Yes. We will. Don’t worry Papa. Miss Swan put a spell on it. It won’t break.” Grace replied, flopping down on the couch next to her father.
“Did you now Miss Swan? The irony is overwhelming. Especially here.” Emma smirked at him, and he smirked back.
“The irony washed over me in spades while casting the spell Jefferson, believe me.”
“What’s this now?” Neal inquired from his spot next to Emma on the couch they were on.
“Oh it was a long time ago.” Jefferson replied.
“Practically three years now yeah?” Emma asked, enjoying the disbelieving look on her boyfriend’s face.
“Oh yes.”
“Still got the rope?”
“Well yes. It wasn’t in too bad a shape. I decorated a hat with it.”
“Now that is ironic. You didn’t redecorate. I like that. This place suits you.”
“Thank you Miss Swan.”
“Now what happened to the…” Emma continued before Neal, Henry, and Grace all cut in.
“What are you talking about?!” they all asked.
“Oh back when the town was still cursed and Regina was still a big bad, she made Jefferson kidnap me as part of a plot to make Snow look guilty by not showing up for her court date. We got away. Naturally.” Emma replied, smug.
“Cheeky.” Jefferson quipped.
“Always will be.”
“I don’t hear any sound coming from upstairs.” Grace said, looking up. They all looked skyward and indeed, the sound had stopped.
“Think maybe…?” Henry asked.
“I dunno, let’s go check.” They all got up and went upstairs to Grace’s room. As they neared the door, they still heard nothing. Emma waved her hand to take the spell off and Grace opened the door.
“I told you it’d work.” Grace commented at the sight before them. Grumpy and Nova sharing butterfly and nose kisses, standing close. They started at her words and pulled apart. “Alright you two, there’s champagne down stairs waiting for you. Help yourselves. Meanwhile, it’s getting late. I want to go to bed, so out of the closet and my room.” Grace stepped aside, nodding at the door. They scampered out and down the stairs, much to the amusement of the others. An hour later saw the guests leaving Jefferson and Grace’s mansion, smiling and happy. As the others walked towards their cars, Neal stopped Emma by lightly grabbing her arm, and turned her around.
“I’d like to ask you something.” Neal ventured, looking nervous.
“What is it old man?” Emma joked. Neal smiled.
“Emma, we’ve been through…well…a lot, through the years. Heartbreak, joy, sadness, you name it, we’ve been through it. And yet, despite all the times it looked like…we’d never have our happy ending, something deep down inside me told me we would make it, and now here we are. When I was little I thought the saying ‘star crossed lovers’ was a cliché but now, I kind of get it. Out of all the people in this world and back home, we found each other, and that is kind of spectacular.” Emma felt the tears in her eyes start to flow, and a sob get stopped in her throat. It was actually happening. “We both have faced family issues, never thought we’d have our families back, never thought we’d be a part of a comfortable, happy one. And yet, here we are. We have our families back and we’re forming new ones and…” Emma could see the tears start to form in his eyes. “ Look, I know… I know you are your own person. You are guarded, and I get that. I also get that breaking through those barriers was a big deal. You are stubborn, independent, loving, caring, and the strongest person I know, and I can’t think of anyone I admire …or fear, more than you.” Emma gave a choked laugh at his comment, which made him smile. “ You are more than capable of living life independently. Raising Henry, working, saving the world. You can do it all. So if…if you say no, I’d understand. If you believe I am about to cross a line…ah… I’m not saying you have to stop me from making a complete ass of myself but…” Emma shook her head vigorously.
“Keep going.” she said , her voice shaking.
“Okay, okay then. So, um… should I…should I do the knee thing or…”
“Down on one knee dad! It’s tradition, don’t break that.” Henry shouted from the car, the laughter of Nova and Grumpy following, making them remember they weren’t alone.
“Our son commands it.” Neal said, smiling and getting down on one knee, pulling a ring from his pocket. “So, Emma Swan, daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, Savior of the Kingdom and love of my very very long life, will you marry me?” Emma’s grin got bigger and she began to nod.
“Yes, yes of course I’ll marry you you dolt. Come here.” She pulled him up from where he was and into a kiss, vaguely hearing the cheers from everyone but not wholly. All that mattered in that moment was the man in her arms. After they broke from the kiss, they looked at each other, all smiles, foreheads pressed together.
“In Storybrooke, Maine. And an enchanted land no one would believe us about.” Emma added.
“So you still want to visit there occasionally?” Neal asked.
“Not just visit. I’m thinking…wedding there?” Emma ventured, eyeing her fiancé.
“We’ll talk about it.” Neal replied.
“ We could get the palace my parents lived in repaired, have it there…”
“Emma…” Neal warned.
“Yeah old man?” Emma asked, pasting on an innocent face.
“You’ll be my end I swear.”
“Damn right.” Emma replied , and the night air was filled with Neal’s laughter as they walked to the car and their son.
The next day, a bottle of champagne, some chocolate and a congratulatory card was found outside Neal’s apartment door, signed from Jefferson and Grace.
By 10 am everyone in the town knew that the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, and the son of the (former) Dark One were engaged to be married.
