So, there are a lot of AUs out there where Neal didn’t let Emma take the fall for the watches and they raise Henry.

But what if they didn’t? They sell the watches, Neal tells August to go fuck a cactus and they head off to Tallahassee. Emma finds out she’s pregnant along the way.

What if between Neal’s issues with his father and Emma growing up without parents, combined with their young age, made them realize that they couldn’t give him his best shot? So, they give him up for adoption. It’s the hardest thing they ever do, but they know deep down it’s for the best. The money from the watches is only going to go so far. They also don’t know how to be parents, given their own screwed up histories.

They still last and stay in Tallahassee for awhile, but eventually move to Boston for whatever reason. One day, they get a knock on the door and it’s Henry. He tells them of a town where all the fairytale characters live and says Emma’s their only hope. Emma is telling the kid it’s crazy and Neal is torn between coming face to face with his father again or helping Emma actually reach her destiny, so she can finally be with ehr parents.

So…he tells her that Henry’s right. And let’s her know what August told him. All this time, they could’ve been searching for her family.

Emma doesn’t speak to Henry or Neal the entire ride to Storybrooke.

Its worth noting that while miles/kilometers is probably more useful in smaller, denser areas, it just makes more sense in america to describe distance using time rather than miles because the lay of the land is so wildly different. Lets say youre in a suburb. You want to go to point A or point B. They are both the same distance away, but point A is downtown in the city, point B is just further into the suburb. It will take much longer to get to point A because of the city traffic.

Also if youre visiting the U.S., tip your server. For the love of god. They dont get paid shit. They make $2 an hour and theyre expected to make up the rest in tips. If they dont make it to the equivalent of being paid minimum wage, the business is supposed to compensate but half the time they dont even do that. Ive seen people break down after busting their ass for someone left and right only to not recieve a tip at all, on a $60 ticket. Dont do that.

As for the “prepared for anything look” i cant vouch for everyone but my mom is a photographer but also extremely frugal so on top of her camera equipment she also has snacks, bottled water, usually a map of the place to save phone battery, because its just. Cheaper.

We tend to be friendly because we’re sort of forced to be and then it gets to the point where we dont notice it. If you arent at least somewhat genial, people think youre an asshole.

Most people have worked at some point in their life, and customer service, even if you werent necessarily a part of it, rubs off on you and everything you touch.
