Pretty Eyes - Jason Reeves
Before even coming to the Upper East Side, Corey had never known who Serena van der Woodsen was. She was just another girl, another sun that seemed to draw everyone in with a light that they wanted or needed to bask in. But even once he did find out who she was, he wasn’t inclined to bask in it. He didn’t rush to stand in her light because he knew very well where his place was amongst the nameless masses and it certainly wasn’t in her orbit. But somehow, he had been invited (dragged was a better word for it), by Eric to their summer home and of course naturally, Serena had gone along too. Regardless of that fact, Corey still hadn’t expected to end up in a car with her, riding shotgun as she drove along the coast, scenery blurring past them in majestic colours outside the rolled down windows. She had wanted company and Eric had still been asleep after last night’s party, leaving Corey as the sole person who was had been up early enough that summer morning. Despite his protests, Corey had long since realized that when Serena asked you to do something, you did it. And now there he was. As her blonde hair whipped around her face in a wild frenzy, as she wore an expression of sheer, unadulterated bliss that seemed to radiate around her being, and when she turned to smile at him, her pretty eyes glittering with life, he understood her pull. He understood why she had captured the heart of so many on the Upper East Side.
This life was nothing more than her joy ride and when she smiled like that, you couldn’t help but want to be on it with her…even if it was just for a short car ride down the coast.
