He's a full-time college student who makes the time in his busy life to ensure that other volunteers just like him have equal access to getting involved. As New Mexico's Organizing Director, he's helping the team to grow and strengthen in preparation for moving forward in 2017 to get the Free and Fair Elections Resolution passed in their state legislature. Thank you, Sergio, for your leadership and commitment to ending legalized bribery in our government.
Sergio's experience in his own words:
I am an undergraduate economics major. I found Wolf-PAC through The Young Turks. I have been watching the show since the government shutdown, and have been meaning to join Wolf-PAC since high school, but I was always so worried about my time commitments. Right after the shooting in San Bernardino, I remember watching TYT Live and seeing Cenk screaming at the top of his lungs, “We’re killing ourselves!” That statement made me think about the state of our Congress being so corrupt that we ignore innocent lives. For me, regardless of your preferred method of responding to that shooting, the reality is that our elected legislators cannot have an honest discussion because of all the money that plagues our politics. As a result of this corrupt system, people are dying. At that moment, I said to myself, “If I don’t step-up now, then when?”
Being part of Wolf-PAC has been a fulfilling experience, from the positive interactions from my state legislators, to speaking with constituents in New Mexico and in Texas. I would like to thank all of my fellow wolves in Wolf-PAC New Mexico who have shared their commitment to getting big money out of politics, especially New Mexico’s Legislative Director, Joseph Baltzer, for being my friend ever since I signed-up. I also would like to thank Todd Jagger and the rest of Wolf-PAC Texas for the lessons they have given me. They are an exemplary team.
Above all, as this crazy election has drawn to a close, our democracy will only be reclaimed by average Americans getting involved in the political process, not by our politicians. I hope one day, when you realize the value of our democracy, and you ask yourself an important question – “If I don’t step-up now, then when?” – you find the answer you are looking for.
