To witness the holy ritual and how devotees pray at Orthodox monastery, Holy Trinity in the city of Sergiyev Posad (45 miles northeast of Moscow), is a place to go to. It is so much more authentic and less touristy. I never thought that their Orthdox religion practices could differ from Catholic and Christian. Devotees were seen carrying candles, placing the lighted candles that gave off a very mild scent, before the icon paintings and kissing on the icon paintings while doing their holy signs a few times. If there was any coffin (a see through but covered with cloth) containing the relics of the well known priest, they would kiss it as well. Women wore long skirts and scarves over their heads in modesty while most children appeared shy. A place to be still and quiet. #sergiyevposad #travelsketch
