You feel silly for fretting. Ultimately, the comments online should be something you’re used to, but they feel different now. Where the hate you received in the past would stem from nonsensical observation of your talent in performing, this month's wave has highlighted so many superficial aspects instead. Unfair examinations of your person, how immature your personality is, the amount of scandals you’ve been a part of, and how this public relationship with Hoseok will only serve to bring him down.
Lying back on the couch, your arms clutch the throw pillow tighter. The television remains off, and your phone is abandoned on the coffee table as a means for you to stop scrolling endlessly. The rude, speculative words have nothing to do with fact, but they hurt to hear in large quantities, especially when it’s barely been thirty days since announcing the relationship on Twitter.
You wonder if heeding Namjoon’s advice would have been a better course of action; you should do nothing to confirm or deny the relationship and just let it drift into obscurity rather than straightaway tell everyone so fervently.
An electronic jingle sounds in the room from the front door, where the correct password unlocks the door for Hoseok to enter inside. You angle your head towards the small hallway, waiting for him to come into view after the clattering of his shoes subsides. When he does, his eyes find you on the couch and cause his expression to perk up, smiling as he heads to you,
“So you were here after all. You didn’t answer my texts asking if you were still here.” Hoseok comments as you visibly frown when you sit up, but for the moment Hoseok says nothing about it. Merely lifting up your legs shortly, so that he can slide into the couch underneath, while you mumble your reply.
“I turned my phone off a while ago. Sorry.”
He hums, nodding his head a little while his hands stay rested atop your shins. Watching you shift so that your body slumps against the back of the couch, Hoseok continues smiling gently at you, but you can recognize how it’s for show.
“I told you not to get on Twitter for a while, love-- delete the app even.” He tells you softly, relaxing his neck back so that his eyes stare at the ceiling. “It’s all petty crap.”
“Yeah,” You know he’s right, but you still wish it didn’t exist altogether. Whether it’s meaningful or not, the words still register in your mind every time you unwittingly catch sight of them. Deleting Twitter seems like you’re giving up, but at the same time you can’t really do much as a rebuttal without triggering more attention to the subject. “Did you?”
“I should.” You barely catch his words, but as Hoseok continues looking upwards you can tell there’s bits of tiredness speckling his skin, around his eyes, and causing his smile to be altogether gone. “Well, not that I regret anything about telling the world we’re together.”
“Really?” Your eyebrows knit, not quite sure of his words. Hoseok quirks his neck, angling towards you. His lips pout into a tiny frown and his eyes almost look hurt,
“You do?”
“No.” You shake your head, sighing as you rub your temples. “I don’t, but I just,” Your groan then forget the sentence. Slumping back into the couch, you accidentally release the pillow that falls to the floor beside you. “I love you. I love being your girlfriend. I don’t regret telling people. I just hate them having so many ways to give their shitty opinions.”
“Me too, sweetheart.” Hoseok nods. He worms his right arm between your waist and the couch, grateful you understand the intent as you help him move you to sit on his lap. “The good thing is that the news will get boring and they’ll find something new to talk about soon.”
“I feel bad for whoever has their five minutes of infamy next, but I can’t wait for it to not be me for once. I don’t like being told how much a mistake it is for you to be with me.”
“It’s not a mistake.” You feel Hoseok’s hands tighten around you from a bout of frustration, only pressing into your skin, but you know that topic annoys him. “I'll tweet about it twenty times in a row if people are telling you that. Fucking stupid. You’re my everything.”
“I love you.” The tiny smile on your face becomes fuller when his glare dissipates and expression softens at your gentle declaration. Hoseok’s eyes tilt back towards you, but rather than speaking he evidently admires your features: looking from your eyes, to your lips, your cheeks--
“I love you too, darling.” Solidifying his words, Hoseok presses a lax kiss to your mouth, reveling in the delicate way your hand holds the back of his head to keep him in place. Like a slow dance, the kiss lingers at a relaxed pace, truly coaxed along by pure adoration. Hoseok’s mind tosses away those ridiculous claims online to focus on the present with you and him together. It’s the simplest comfort, but the strongest to assure everything will be fine. He whispers on your lips, “Now and tomorrow; no matter what people think.”
“Romeo-esque.” You giggle as Hoseok rolls his eyes and lets the two of you topple downwards onto the couch. He perches above you with his elbow grazing your shoulders. His breath tickles your nose,
“I’m serious.” And his words are fervent, though paired with a contradictory grin from his amusement at your comparison. His eyes don’t stray from yours while your hand reaches to brush his hair only for it to fall back in its suspension in air. You smile at him as you use the appendage to guide him back down to you. You speak against his lips,
“And every day after tomorrow.”
His chuckle muffles into the kiss, but neither of you pay any mind as the same comfort of togetherness lingers in the sanctuary of the apartment. Hoseok’s lips trail from your mouth to your cheek, kissing a single spot over and over to elicit your soft laughter as you hug him down against you. Cheery despite the day draining your energy, you mesh your fingers into his hair and then kiss the space beside his ear, unintentionally causing a tiny trail of electricity in Hoseok’s spine.
His hand reaches for your jaw, angling it back towards him so he can initiate a deeper kiss, saturated in warmth and coaxing out a little sigh from you when he pulls away. With plush lips, you look into his eyes, finding yourself just as in love as he must be with the way he looks back at you. Gently, Hoseok pecks your lips, taking time to pull away, and you know everything already is okay. You have him in any case. All other matters are just things to deal with hand in hand. The thought blossoms a smile on your face as you meet his lips in a descent for more.

Hello! If you’ve been here since the very beginning of this story that means you’ve been here since JANUARY AND IM SO SORRY IT’S TAKEN SO LONG TO CREATE THIS WHOLE THING!!! I didn’t intend for it to be such a long story in the first place, and then I went to Korea for five months so I also had no time to actually write it alkjdgfh NONETHELESS!! Whether you’ve been here since January or started reading recently, thank you so much for reading this very long story! I hope you enjoyed it, it’s been one of my favorites to make even if it’s definitely been the second most difficult (halloween between midnights is always going to be the hardest i swear-) I LOVE YOU, THANKS AGAIN!
Fun facts!:
The name of the story “Fable” I got when I was listening to Nice For What lmaoooo, but I used it also because of the two meanings of the word: the first meaning being “lie” and the second “legend”
Originally Seulgi, Wheein, Seokjin, Taehyung, Jimin, and even Jeongguk were going to be a lot more involved in the story, but I cut a lot of it to make the story shorter (70 chapters short lmaoooooooo)
Actually, one of the biggest flaws in the story for to write is that Y/N and Jisoo had seen the sasaeng before the beginning of the story. Had they not I was going to make Jeongguk the sasaeng lmao plot twist rip
All of the idol companies except one are named after space things! Shine was named after the song by Pentagon HAHA
I think it was pretty obvious in this last chapter, but Y/N and Hoseok’s final twitter icons were taken by one another on the same day on some date they had
I think of all the characters, Hoseok changed the most from beginning to end. I didn’t get to go into his backstory too much, but he actually was quite hardened and even a little arrogant because of his rise to fame, but mellowed out significantly by the end of Fable.
Technically this au’s Y/N dated three members of BTS (Yoongi in high school, then Jin prior to the start of the story, then of course Hoseok) .... girl get it lmao
If you really look at Jisoo and Chaeyoung, though their motivations are similar, Chaeyoung is much worse of a person to me lol. Jisoo paid the stalker and leaked pictures yes, but Chaeyoung created the initial dissension in AMBIANCE to get Y/N kicked out, then also started paying the sasaeng, tried to break up Hoseok and Y/N, and despite what she said she DID instigate the sasaeng confronting Y/N by telling him how unimportant he was to her. She had that in her head at the time. But she only went really off the rails when Y/N started collaborating with Jimin. Jimin meant more to her than breaking Y/N’s career tbh.
All the members of Ambiance are from different groups in real life. I didn’t want it to seem like I was dragging a particular group lol.
The story takes places over the course of about a year, interestingly enough it’s a similar amount of time that it took in real life since it started in January lmao.
Hoseok calls Y/N “Love” in the sense of him saying “my love”
I like Yoongi’s character the best.... he’s a sweetie... loml..
I always had fun writing as the managers lol. Namjoon and Manager Park are sarcastic and blunt.... drag their own idols akldsjghlsh
In this universe, idols aren’t shred apart by the majority of fans for dating, but they still usually keep it on the dl bc of the companies lol
This story DOES have a continuation idea, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get into making it.... maybe someday LOL PEACE OUT
