Send it up (illustration)
Sunday's topic was “Send it up.” Ecclisastes 11:1 "Send out your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will get it back" NRSV. The first point of the message was that generosity is about capacity building. I had an additional illustration, your laptop battery.
If you keep your laptop plugged in to its charger all of the time. If you never let the battery dispense, over time the battery loses its ability to hold power. When you think about it, a laptop is not meant to be stationary, it’s meant charge and be mobile.
The battery is there for power on the go.
When you’re at a desk, in one place, the power supply can keep the computer going. The battery isn’t really serving a purpose when you’re plugged in all the time.So consequently, when the battery is used and then allowed to replenish it has a longer life span. Myles Monroe says it like this “Anything that is used for something other than its intended purpose is abused”
All that you have isn’t for you, you’re meant to dispense it out. But when you try to hold on to everything, you decrease your capacity to receive more.
