Anyway moving on, this panel was so amusing coz in one side. Tsubaki like "who's that? oh Mahiru has a dad. That his dad right? He's here". Meanwhile Kuro is "TOUMA IS MAHIRU's DAD??!! CAN'T BE!!!" 😂😂. And having Touma and Mahiru has a "normal" dad and son convo is still tickleing my brain. Mahiru's (does your job is finished?) is so typically him. But Touma's (yes. But don't you have club activities?) makes me goes... STOP! Why are you being a proper dad sudenly 😵‍💫

This chapter is really a freaking roller coaster.... but there's still a lot of character that have not yet being revealed. And I assumed that Akira is still alive in this universe.

But those who are aware that this is a mirror universe until now is Mikuni, JJ, Tsubaki and Kuro. Wonder what will they do after this...

Ch 97 Spoilers

Fuuuuck, this chapter was everything I could have ever asked for and HOO BOY.

Kuro has come such a long way. He’s talking so freely about his own experiences here, trying his best to comfort Mahiru even if he’s running blind with it. That's so massive for him, who hides all his pain and suffering like the cat he turns into

like he's not outright saying that he's drawing from his past, but anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows exactly what he's referring to when he says "place your family first" and "making the most wrong decisions," especially with the way their exchange doesn't just mirror Mahiru helping him confront his regret in words, but also in physical actions

and i like that we're not being spoonfed that info

also, just... We're finally getting into the meat of Mahiru's issues that have been hinted at but never addressed directly. Those flashbacks hit hard. That tiny hand, so small and fragile... Mahiru eagerly waiting for someone to come through that door, all alone in the dark.

Kuro is also starting to see what we, the audience, have been given morsels and hints about, putting together the pieces about how not okay Mahiru actually is. He’s not the perfect savior everyone seems to think he is. He’s a scared kid.

I really like the way Strike has set Mahiru up, because it takes the trope of “boring normal person amasses supernatural harem” and flips it on its head. This is someone you can actually see yourself believing that, despite how normal he is, he can attract the attention of a lot of different people.

Mahiru has a lot of substance to him that many “normal joe” protags lack. His lack of defining traits makes him easy to overlook, but damn, once you get past that... His struggles and his fears, his issues, are all very normal, very basic...

But they hit every human deep

The fear of being alone

Everything about Mahiru, from how he approaches people, to his many skills, to the way he talks about himself... It’s designed to ensure that he is needed, that he is wanted.

Even though he's surrounded... He can't seem to accept that if something happens to Tooru, he will have so many places to go.

--because not even his own family wanted him. Tooru... Was the only one who said "come with me. I'll take care of you"

Kids aren't deaf. He would have heard the whispers of adults at his mother’s wake, all coming up with excuses and trying to push him off onto someone else. 

That experience... Would have left a mark on him.

Anyway... I should pinpoint this opinion about Akira, she is one HELL of a magician. She's a genius bro. Just listen, you need to be on a Germaine level of magic to know how to bring people from the dead. That's just how cool she is!!!

Think about it, ain't the highest level of magic is when you KNOW how to bring dead people back to life?!! And not only that... Germaine's "product" when he succeed is vampire, but Akira.... Mahiru is still a human. Who's still able to grow old and die of an old age someday.
