Penguin Services Editions Penguin stole a march on other Publishers when they were give special dispensation, and paper, to publish their Forces Book Club In 1942/3. Their rivals joined forces to establish Guild Publishing and other Services Editions began to appear. Penguin issued a further series of Services Editions towards the end of the war, in the main to occupy and entertain troops who faced a long wait for demobilisation. These were distributed by The Services Central Book Depot.
