1. How did you first get into Hollow Knight?

honestly i dont remember at all. i must have heard about it Somewhere...? but i dont remember any specific person or place that would have recommended it to me or where id seen it. it's possible i just stumbled across it randomly on steam...? but most likely i just saw various people online talking about it and decided to check it out. and im glad i did! good games...

4. Favourite boss battle?

IMPOSSIBLE TO ANSWER. non exhaustive list: grimm/nkg, sealed/pure vessel (albeit for slightly different reasons; sealed mostly impact-wise, pure mostly gameplay wise), hornet sentinel, watcher knights, soul master/tyrant. honestly i really enjoy all hollow knight bosses tho they are all fun. easier to answer my least favourite tho which is grey prince zote. normie answer but its true. im. slooooowly getting the hang of him so im warming up to it but. ough. the lack of telegraphing makes it hard in a way im not that into. cogwork dancers, lost lace, widow, karmelita once i got the hang of her. cogwork dancers Probably actually my no1 fav silksong boss tho theyre just sooooo fun i love the mechanics of it. overall i have less strong opinions on siso bosses because there is no boss rush (yet) so i have battled them way less.

7. The moment in either game that made you cry the most

answered here! but tldr nothing has actually made me cry, but the sealed vessel fight and red memory respectively are probably the moments that make me most emotional!

24. With everyone’s HK and Skong experience being different from one another, did you get the hang of either game easily? Or did it take you a while to understand the mechanics and figure out some strategies?

pogo failure aside, i would say... sort of got the hang quickly? DEFINITELY got the hang of silksong faster than i got of hollow knight, because i already had more of a solid base LOL. but i do think i sort of got the hang of hk pretty quickly-- im MUCH better at it now than i used to be of course, but i never really got stuck to the point of frustration or anything (not that i remember anyway. so even if it did happen, i guess it wasnt too bad?) actually though that part was rougher in silksong mayyybe? i do remember getting pretty frustrated with last judge and karmelita specifically because the way i was approaching them just did NOT work and i was like >:[ until i realized if i approach them another way it IS actually fun believe it or not... <- bosses i neeeeed to be up close and personal with else it is Not Fun at all.

though thinking back on my first hk playthrough, my strategies were... i will use the word baffling because i dont want to say bad, but i relied a lot on healing (shape of unn and quick heal especially) and never used spells which i would simply not do nowadays. my strategy now is to get good enough at dodging that i dont need to heal. i dont think ive equipped a healing or health charm (outside of randomizers) in over five years. and i really understand how good spells are now (though i do still love just swinging my nail everywhere...). so yes i got the hang of it quickly (and i would consider myself Very Good at the game) (though definitely not top tier) but my strategies did evolve over time as i got a better understanding of how things work and what is and isnt fun to me specifically. the what is and isnt fun to me part is crucial here. i dont think dodging over healing is "better" or whatever but for me specifically it is infinitely more fun. also i enjoy radiants grinding so yknow.

tangent a bit but one of my fav things about hk/siso is how like... you Gradually improve just by playing. it does difficulty scaling REALLY well imo where i really barely realize that i am Getting Better until i start a new savefile and suddenly breeze through early things i KNOW i struggled with a lot and im like wait holy shit. i got good at this. when did that happen.

im kind of a hater sorry :skull emoji: most popular jokes tend to not do it for me either because i just dont think theyre funny or because if they are they get like overdone. and a lot of them kind of reduce/simplify characters and i dont care for that. also tho actually admittedly immmm. not sure what kind of memes there are in the fandom actually...? because its just not something i really seek out.

THAT BEING SAID. i do have to say. the clowning for silksong announcements every single gaming news update was funny as fuck. yesss our collective clown wig lets go <3 silksong today? silksong? spare silksong?

edit: does "hornet being cool as fuck in hollowknight and then being cringefail in silksong due to player skillissue" count? because i remmeber seeing a bunch of funny posts about that. and its sooo true so true sorry miss hornet i know you are cool and skillful and so on but you WILL continue to fall facefirst into thorns and spikes because i misjudged the beast pogo again <3 my bad

2. What was your most “professional-gamer” moment during your playthrough?

oh that's hard to remember, especially for hk (i started playing it like 7 years ago). umm if were talking accomplishments im most proud of, maybe beating radiant nkg? honestly theres a lot of things im proud of. actually maybe its just going back on replays and realizing how much easier things i used to struggle with are now. like i Did actually get good... its fun to see i like it lots. for silksong um. does beating cradle ascension in 5 minutes count? also i made it to the final wave of high halls arena on my first try (but it did take me a few more to actually beat it). both of these stick out to me because those were the two things i was warned about as being really hard.

however. since "professional gamer" is in quotation marks im choosing to also interpret this question as tongue in cheek and say my most gamer moment was getting stuck in fungal wastes for literal hours because i ! did not realize you could downswing and could not progress past the mushroom pogo sections. i thought i was missing an ability for SO long. i looked up WALKTHROUGHS and i had to go through like 5 of them because none of them clarified pogoing. oops !

7. The moment in either game that made you cry the most

i do not cry easily especially in games like hk/siso (because i need to be Locked In for gameplay. games do sometimes make me cry*, but not usually if theyre challenging/require focus like that) but i mean. sealed vessel fight does get me every time. i dont cry at it but it has gotten close before. im much more sensitive to crying because of music and the backing track in that fight really highlights things well. silksong... im not sure! i dont think anything in there made me cry or got close. thats not to say i dont get emotional about things though. red memory probably got to me the most.

13. What are some things you especially like about either/both games? This could be art-wise, design-wise, story-wise, mechanic-wise, etc.

theyre literally fun. this sounds like a copout answer a bit but like. theyre literally FUN. the gameplay is so intensely satisfying. its generally just in the right sweetspot for me in terms of difficulty and like... it just feels GOOD. yes the art is gorgeous yes the music is great yes the characters and story and lore... but at its core the reason hk/siso are some of my favourite games of all time is just that they have really REALLY good gameplay.

one of my favourite things about it (aaand sadly the one thing i cant really replicate on replays) is getting lost. its literally fun to explore the map and end up in some random fucking place and who even knows. "oh ill just quickly go finish up doing this one thing" -words spoken by someone who is about to get sidetracked for 3 hours and end up in the middle of nowhere with no idea where anything is or how to get back.

this was more impactful in hk than siso to me because a) i was not as good at things back then and more importantly b) i played it much more on my own time. with silksong i knew a lot of other people who played and even Trying to avoid spoilers, having just seen the words "act 3" makes it hard to really explore blindly on your own and stuff like that. i still had a good time exploring in siso but there was a bit more structure/direction to it than in my hk play.

i enjoy randomizers because theyre a way to get that 'aimless' feeling back a bit and having to explore things in an unconventional manner :3 but i do wish sometimes i could forget about the games completely so i could get Properly lost and experience everything again for the first time.

15. If you’ve listened to any lyrical covers of the Hollow Knight/Silksong OST, do you happen to have any favourites?

OH YEAH OH YEAH OH YEAH OKAY!!! confession ive pretty much Only listened to the man on the internet lyric covers buuuuuuut <3 i do like (almost) all of them a lot. my favourites are grimms theme, sealed vessel, clockwork dancers, and broken vessel.

grimm was the first one of theirs i listened to, like, 6 years ago? and i no joke listened to it for literally days on loop. not like, occasional on loop on multiple days, but pretty much Always playing on loop over multiple days. i like it a lotttt its such a banger. helps that grimms theme is also just awesome LOL but i really like how they combine the two different themes and also canon dialogues and stuff. awesome.

sealed vessel... well i am also just biased. but its soooo good its so good... i looooove how the display the vessel here and its so. head in my hands. the segments which are the knight and vessel singing in tandem but with slightly different lyrics? peak. yes. please.

cogwork dancers. augh. augh. augh. im taking damage. again also just a really banger base theme already but i really like how they showcase and characterize them... its Good its good. and broken vessel is also just a banger honestlsy im running out of things to say specifically but theyre All Just Good. i like Them. yay !

out of the ones ive listened to, radiance is the most disappointing to me nnnnnot because its like, bad but because its just not That Good. especially with how much of a banger her theme ALREADY is id rather just listen to the original instrumental.

... anyway now that i've talked a lot about moti the real answer is "bury my mother pale and slight - amalgemotion", a cover/expansion on myla's theme and the best one of that kind i've seen. i love it SO much. this is pushing a bit more towards 'straight up new song' rather than 'cover' buuut it does use her ingame humming so im counting it :3
