Despite his carefree look in this picture, he's usually nervous and uncaring in a different way. Mostly just trying to get through his work without his secret getting out so does his best to cover up his fear by just acting passive about what's going on around him.

Normally he is not crying, mind you, he actually is a bit of a daredevil by Elsen standards. He tries to get what he can out of life since the mine incident and acts a bit of a fool. It's not that he wants to be in danger or even enjoys half his antics, but he's trying to challenge his anxieties by facing them head on even in small ways like having his tie undone. Acts like a bastard, actually really soft underneath it all.

Then here's Simon's voiceclaim before he went missing rightttt here. Though the only drawings I have of him right now were all after he went missing.

Before the accident, Simon was a very determined worker. There were issues with him communicating his feelings and taking times to do things outside of his job however. But he was power hungry (to a degree!) and dead set on climbing his way up to be Dedan's righthand man. Before he went missing, he was only a few days from getting moved to Alma.
