i've mostly been talking in the discord but wanted to share this: been playing the new tomodachi life and these two got together
in previous games it was always the mother who held the baby when they showed it to you and in hindsight i think it's just a coin flip now but this was too funny to not make a doodle about
they named her ivy btw
i still need to tweak jetsam's makeup to look more like the other miis, i made him earlier on and haven't changed it yet
TV: …as court adjourned today, both the prosecution and defense declined to comment, leaving the world to wonder - what truly happened in the Radika Case?
TV: Spectators the world over have expressed concern regarding how Sunnyside - as well as its infamous governor, Dr. Robotnik - will handle criminal actions within its borders, and with an international racing star at the center of the incident, many foreign administrations are considering this tragic event to be a test of his competency as a supposedly benevolent leader.
TV: I tell ya, Ron, these guys never get off our case, do they? Two whole years of peace since Sunnyside's founding, and they act like each and every one of our humble citizens are involved in the plot for some new nefarious scheme!
TV: It sure is a doozy, Phil! In local news, authorities are still on the lookout after multiple Badnik factory robberies…
Reiker: Yeesh, my first big case and everyone is watching…
Yanshu: I can't believe how many newscasters were waiting just outside the doors!
Flash: You guys're lucky I was there to play keep-away. Pro'lly would'a been squashed otherwise!
Yanshu: [Shudder] That would certainly complicate things… Do you think they're still in the building?
Reiker: That doesn't matter - we won't be staying here long. Did you manage to transcribe the-?
Yanshu: The directions? Yeah, I mapped them out. I even compared them to some satellite images and blueprints of the city's underground to see exactly where we were going - it looks like we're headed to pump station 17!
Reiker: "Directions" is a strong word for what he gave us…
Flash: Ha! Have you ever talked to someone that doesn't speak leagal-ese, or is this your first time?
Reiker: I-… Let's just get going. I'd like to get done with this sewer business as quickly as possible.
Reiker: Urgh, I was really hoping to be over this stench... At least now we know it's the same as the one coming from Radika's jacket.
Reiker: [Sigh] I miss the sun…
Yanshu: Oh, come on! Sure, the smell is pretty bad, but once you get used to it, this place is a little cozy, no?
Reiker: Are you really calling a sewer cozy?
Yanshu: Not the sewer! The tunnels just-… Y'know?
Reiker: I, uh… Don't think I do, no…
Yanshu: Oh...
Yanshu: ... Are you okay, Mr. Strait? You look kinda pale...
Reiker: By Gaia, how much longer do we have to-
???: Hey, who else is in here!? IDENTIFY YOURSELVES!
Reiker: I think I know that voice…
Cubot: Stop right there! This is an active investiga-! ...tion...
Cubot: Oh... It's you two.
Reiker: Yeah... I guess I should've expected that we'd run into you two down here.
Orbot: Frankly, I'm surprised we ran into anyone in this maze. We've been wandering blindly since the last court session was adjourned.
Yanshu: Oh, I printed out a map if you want to follow us! I even brought an extra copy, just in case!
Cubot: Hmph… We can figure it out oursel-
Orbot: How generous of you! We'd really appreciate the assistance.
Reiker: … Did you two not notice the arrows?
Orbot: Of course we noticed! We just had to check the Sonic traps.
Yanshu: The... Sonic traps?
Cubot: What, you think that rodent gets a free ticket into the city? If he wants to sneak around in here, he's gotta come in the hard way!
Orbot: The boss ordered us to make sure no one set off the auxiliary Badniks while we were down here. Punishment for our shoddy investigation work, it seems...
Reiker: Speaking of punishment, weren't you two supposed to be taking a hematology course?
Orbot: It was truly a rigorous 10 second download.
Orbot: Cruel and unusual, if you ask me...
Yanshu: 10 seconds? That sounds awfully fast for something so comprehensive!
Yanshu: So... How big was that file? Was it just text, or a PDF, or... Can you download video that quickly? How much localized storage space do you-
Reiker: Yanshu…
Yanshu: Aah, sorry…
Yanshu: … So, any sign of Sonic?
Cubot: N—ope, doesn't look like he's been here, but if we find so much as a quill, this whole city's on LOCK DOWN!
Reiker: (Please, Sonic, just this once, be lazy and stay home… I don't think I could stand a lock down in the sewers, especially with these two.)
Yanshu: Oh, I think I see a light down that tunnel! That must be the place!
Jetsam: I, um... Y-you guys aren't… A-Alcost… What're you doing here?
Cubot: We got a warrant to investigate this area as part of the murder case. What're you doin' down here, bub?
Jetsam: Ah-… We practice down here! A lot! I—t's… Stability training!
Reiker: And by "stability training" do you mean "knocking each other into the sewer water?"
Jetsam: … What? Only Tony does that, then he gets heated when he's shoved back! It's his own dumb fault he fell in!
Reiker: Right, and you're training... Now? Alone?
Jetsam: W-well, I... was waiting for coach to get here! Obviously!
Jetsam: ... Listen, I don't come into your place and ask what you're doin' there!
Reiker: (Seth's presence is way too coincidental, but I can't let him distract me from the real stuff going on here… I need to investigate and press him for any information he might have on this place.)
Reiker: I noticed we didn't see you at the trial today. Did you not get a court summons?
Jetsam: Why would I? I didn't have anything to do with it. Coach wanted me to spend the time training.
Reiker: … In the sewers.
Seth: Closed course.
Reiker: Right…
Yanshu: Forgive me for asking - you seem very passionate about racing - but does Mr. Alcost ever let up on you guys when it comes to training? He's focusing an awful lot on work during a time that I imagine would be spent grieving.
Yanshu: I'm not sure if you two were friends per se, but Radika was your teammate, and she seemed to be rather fond of you from how she labelled you in her phone… That has to count for something, doesn't it?
Jetsam: How she-…
Jetsam: … Listen, you might not get it, but sometimes you gotta do anything it takes to win. Yeah, knowing she's gone… I—t hurts, but if I spend however long crying about it just to get rusty and end up losing, after everything she's has worked for?
Jetsam: … That'd do her more injustice than I already have.
Reiker: Wait, so Alcost already hired you to take Radika's place? Eggman made it sound like that was up in the air.
Jetsam: It's in my contract - if something were to happen to Radika, I'd take over. Dunno what egghead would have to say about that…
Reiker: O…kay.
Reiker: So… Looking around here, it seems like Tony kinda just… Does graffiti everywhere, huh? He must spend a fortune on supplies.
Jetsam: Yeah… Dumbass doesn't even mask up. No idea how he doesn't pass out from the fumes.
Jetsam: This place smells bad enough without him stinkin' it up…
Yanshu: Oh, he must've made that big mess behind you, then. Looks like he tried to clean it up, but there's still a big red stain on the-
Jetsam: WHAT-!?
Jetsam: … I—I mean yeah! I was wondering where that came from. He was probably trying to hide it before anyone saw… Now if that's everything you-
Reiker: Hold on a sec, that stain under the paint bucket…
Reiker: … it looks a little out of place, doesn't it?
Yanshu: Now that you mention it, yeah - the color doesn't match the label or the drips on the can, and I doubt Tony would try to mix a new color in the bucket…
Reiker: Cubot, do you guys mind taking a sample of that red spot? … For real this time?
Cubot: Hey, I'm the one givin' orders!
Orbot: ... It does look an awful lot like blood, doesn't it?
Cubot: [Sigh] Fine… Lemme get my tools out.
Jetsam: ………
Reiker: Seth is sweating bullets… He's gotta know it's gonna come back positive.
Cubot: … Alright, boys - we've got ourselves some blood!
Orbot: I'll update the boss with the news. If you could compare that to the sample we retrieved from Ms. Bodacious?
Cubot: Gettin' a good enough signal to connect to the server may take a bit, but I'm on it!
Cubot: As for the rest of you… Nobody move, THIS IS A CRIME SCENE!
Reiker: Well, that confirms it! Yanshu?
Yanshu: Already on it, sir!
> The True Crime Scene Photo has been added to the Court Record!
> Autopsy Report (Radika) has been updated in the Court Record!
Orbot: Oh! Good news, Lawbot just replied - he and Mr. Alcost are on their way right now.
Jetsam: I-… What…?
Reiker: (If this really is the crime scene, we should keep looking around. Seth had obviously been here for a while before we came, and I wouldn't put it past him to tamper with evidence… Now if I was him, where would I try to hide it…?)
Reiker: Hmm...
Reiker: … I couldn't help but notice that big arrow pointing at the pipes. Maybe it's a clue?
Orbot: As much as I would like to share your optimism, it would be incredibly generous of our prospective murderer to leave evidence in such a clearly marked location, wouldn't it?
Reiker: Well, when you put it that way...
Yanshu: Don't let him discourage you too much, Mr. Strait. After all, you were right to investigate down here in the first place - just give it another try!
Reiker: [Ahem] Right...
Cubot: 'Ey, what are you two whisperin' about!?
Reiker: Nothing, nothing! Just… Where exactly does this water line go off to?
Orbot: The network's quite expansive, but all the waste water in the city is eventually sanitized and released into a river near the industrial sector.
Reiker: Alrighty then, let's follow this waterway to see if we see any more signs of Radika!
Orbot: I'm afraid it's not that simple.
Reiker: Why not?
Orbot: Well-
Yanshu: Look at these blueprints here - as you said when we came in, this section of the sewer system is notably spacious, likely to allow for easy maintenance access, but as you get further in, the pipes get increasingly thinner.
Yanshu: I could probably get further in due to my size, but even then, I would eventually get stuck… Maybe you could get further if you could curl up into a ball, but you still wouldn't make it to the end, and that's not even considering the toxic sludge.
Orbot: Indeed…
Reiker: Hm… Do you think it's possible for two people to fit in the pipes between here to the skate park?
Yanshu: I'm… not quite sure. I've been studying the map, and it looks like this pipe leads directly to Collision Corkscrew, but…
Jetsam: I know Tony fits down there. He wiped out real bad one time and we had to fish him out of the manhole over there. The currents are fast, too… Barely managed to cut him off before he got flushed away.
Reiker: Well, I suppose that's useful information.
Reiker: (Definitely need to ask more about that…)
Reiker: … I really don't want to go in there…
Orbot: Finally giving up on that hunch of yours, are you?
Reiker: Unless you know someone about yay-big who won't drown down there, then-
Cubot: Y'know what? I think I know just the 'bot for the job~
Orbot: CUBOT! PUT ME DOWN THIS INSTANT!!
Cubot: GO FIND US SOME CLUES, PARTNER!
Orbot: WAAAAAIIIIIT!!!
[Ploop]
Reiker: …
Yanshu: ……
Jetsam: ……… That was cold, man.
Reiker: ... Remind me to never partner with Cubot.
Yanshu: Poor Orbot… We should at least go try to retrieve him!
Reiker: Okay, but... Where?
Yanshu: That river he mentioned earlier is included on the map of the sewers - if I remember the city's layout correctly, it's not too far from the official race track!
> You can now travel to the Sunnyside Spillway!
???: Well now, look what have we here~
Alcost: Oh, Seth… I see you got my message. Good.
Jetsam: Ah-… Yeah! Ready for training, sir!
Alcost: We aren't training today. Lawbot here asked me if we could go over the track and clear up some issues…
Lawbot: Speaking of… Cubot, show me that sample you found. I'd like to take a gander at it m'self.
Lawbot: Say, where's that lil' circle fella?
Cubot: ... Investigating.
Lawbot: … Right.
Lawbot: Here's hopin' he does the job correctly this time…
Reiker: (Looks like they're getting right to business… I could stick around here and ask a few more questions, or we could try to find Orbot at the spillway.)
Yanshu: I'm sure he's just trying to do his job, Mr. Strait. He's just... y'know?
Reiker: But really!? It's one thing to be particular, but it's another to taunt and belittle me at every possible opportunity!
Reiker: "Law-bot?" M-more like... s—nark-bot!
Yanshu: I... think you're letting this get a bit personal. No offense, but you've been ranting about it since we left the sewers...
Reiker: That doesn't mean anything!
Reiker: What kind of name is "Lawbot" anyway? He doesn't seem that lawful to me.
Reiker: After all, he's just a robot, and one of Eggman's to boot...
Yanshu: Mmmwell-
Reiker: ... Where is Orbot, anyway?
Yanshu: O-oh! Um...
Yanshu: Well, it seems we're at the right spot, I just don't know how long it takes an object to travel through the pipes.
Yanshu: If I had more information, maybe I could do the math... He is just a sphere, after all. That makes it easier to-
Reiker: I just hope he's not stuck...
Yanshu: ... You know, if you wanted to change the subject, you could just ask.
Reiker: I have no idea what you're talking abo-
[SPLOOSH]
Reiker: Woah!
Yanshu: ...!?
Orbot: Oh, wonderful. I finally get out of those awful pipes, and the first thing I see is you two.
Reiker: Well, hello to you, too.
Yanshu: Um... It could've been Cubot?
Orbot: ... Oh, thank goodness, it's you two!
Reiker: Did you find anything interesting in there?
Orbot: Algae.
Orbot: [Shudders] So much algae...
Yanshu: There's plants growing down there!?
Orbot: It's thriving off the chemical waste, it seems - it's anyone's guess as to how. I was forced to try one of Sonic's "spin-dashes" just to get through the muck.
Orbot: How he doesn't get nauseous doing that is beyond me...
Reiker: All you found was algae, then...?
Orbot: Not exactly... I did find a clue towards my investigation!
Reiker: You found something that could exonerate Tony!?
Orbot: What? No! This doesn't have anything to do with that.
Reiker: (If it isn't to do with Tony, then what could he have found, and what other investigation could he be working on?)
Reiker: Do either of you mind telling us what you were doing around the time of the incident?
Alcost: Well, it was the day after our last match. The team and I usually recap the highlights before getting ourselves ready for the next one.
Alcost: I had gotten to the training grounds around 11:45am and started setting up, and Radika came in around noon.
Alcost: On time, mind you.
Jetsam: I was just cleaning up, okay? Stupid shower wouldn't work...
Yanshu: ... So Radika was here?
Alcost: For a time, yes. We were all supposed to be here, but Radika was the only one who came in. I'd say she was training for about 15 minutes before she went to look for Seth and Tony.
Jetsam: I showed up, like… 5 minutes after she left. I texted her right when I got here, so I guess she went to find Tony next. If I'd have gotten here on time, I could'a told Radika to just forget that loser hawk and get back to the race track.
Jetsam: (Sigh) Maybe if I did, sh-she wouldn't have-…
Jetsam: ………
Alcost: Listen, Seth… None of that is your fault, got it?
Alcost: We all made mistakes leading up to it, but you gotta recognize that she made her own, too. You and I both knew what'd come from associating with riff-raff like that, but she insisted that he got to stick around. All we can do is take that and learn from it.
Jetsam: … Sure.
Yanshu: Oh, dear… He seems really torn up about this, Rikey…
Reiker: Yeah, I know…
Reiker: But if that's what Alcost really thinks, why'd he put so much emphasis on Seth being late…?
Reiker: (Those guns in the trophy cabinet… The lock doesn't seem very secure.)
Alcost: Hey, feathers! Don't be getting any smart ideas about that trophy case! There's already been one theft, and I don't want another.
Yanshu: I thought that gap in the display was odd. Do you… Sharpshoot?
Alcost: Nah… Those aren't real guns, they're starter pistols. Y'know, the kind that shoot blanks.
Reiker: Oh! Uh... You have quite the collection there.
Alcost: I like to show off different colors based on the event and location. It's too bad the blue one is missing… That's what I was gonna bring to the E-Stadium next week.
Reiker: Hm… When's the last time you saw it?
Alcost: Well, it was there yesterday… Noticed it was gone this morning when I came in.
Alcost: What I wanna know is what schmuck would be dumb enough to steal a starter pistol, but seeing Tony behind bars, I'd say he about fits the bill. Caught him picking his way into one of the lockers, once. I swear, that boy's always up to something…
Reiker: (What a rude thing to say about one of your understudies...)
Reiker: (Still, it might be relevant to the case. Better write that down…)
> The Missing Gun has been added to the Court Record!
Reiker: About the-
Jetsam: Grr... What else is there to talk about? She was barely here, then she left, end of story.
Reiker: Sorry, I didn't mean to step on any tails. I just-
Alcost: Look… Don't take it personally. Not only has there been horrible tragedy, but we've already had every detail about that mess dredged up by that cowboy, er… Detective? Lawyer? Policeman? Thing. Whatever that 'bot was supposed to be…
Reiker: O-oh, right, um… I'm sorry for your loss.
Alcost: Pay it no mind. If you've got what you need, though, we'd like to get back to training. Trying to keep our minds off the whole thing, you know?
Reiker: Alright, well… If anything comes up, please be sure to contact us.
Alcost: Will do. Good luck out there.
Reiker: (That was… Fast, but they're standing pretty firm. Don't want to push too many buttons like with Vivienne…)
Reiker: (That description he gave of this new prosecutor paints an interesting picture, too, if that is who he was talking about. I can't help but wonder what exactly I'm gonna be up against…)
Reiker: Well, Yanshu, I think that's all we can do for today. Why don't we go check on our client? Talk with him about what we've found?
Yanshu: Oh, yeah! I know I was pretty antsy waiting for my trial… I'm sure he'd appreciate the update!
Reiker: Okay, so that was our first official investigation. I wanna make this quick - gotta prep for the case tomorrow - so let's just hope he doesn't ask about-
Tony: Heyyy, my two favorite court-dudes are back! I was startin' to think you got lost or somethin'!
Tony: So, uh... Any luck findin' my board?
Reiker: (Damn it.)
Reiker: (Well, I guess it's time to report on our findings…)
Reiker: [Sigh…] I was really hoping there would be more to this crime scene.
Orbot: If you're that desperate for clues, you can always check the sewers.
Reiker: … I feel like you're making fun of me.
Orbot: You would be correct.
Reiker: [Grumble grumble…]
Yanshu: Hey, Rikey? We still have one other place we wanted to check out, right?
Reiker: (... "Rikey?")
Reiker: Oh yeah, the training grounds Radika practiced at!
Cubot: Hm... That place? It's about a mile east of here. Big warehouse-lookin' thing, you can't miss it.
Reiker: Does that mean you two already searched there?
Cubot: We were only assigned to the crime scene to keep it locked down. Last I heard, the training grounds were left to the prosecutor.
Yanshu: Ugh… That cat again?
Reiker: It couldn't be… That guy ran off after your case, remember?
Reiker: … Come to think of it, didn't Eggman say Rythen was the only prosecutor he had at the time?
Orbot: Oh, you haven't met the new prosecutor? Lucky you.
Reiker: Is he really that bad?
Cubot: He's a no-nonsense 'bot of the law. He's only been operating for a week, but he's already running circles around us.
Orbot: You should've seen him on his first case - he had the defendant confessing in a matter of minutes! Very thorough, that one.
Reiker: (Just when I thought this job couldn't be any more difficult, I get pitted against a literal lawyer-machine? Joy...)
Reiker: If that's the case, Yanshu and I will just have to beat him at his own game! Right, Yanshu?
Yanshu: Um... We can certainly try?
Orbot: Well, good luck with that. Until then, I suppose we'll be staying here.
Reiker: Thanks!
Reiker: (I think…)
Reiker: Anyway, let's get going. We still have more investigating to do!
Yanshu: Y-yes, sir!
Reiker: [Sniff] ... Awfully dusty in here for an active facility, isn’t it?
Yanshu: Honestly, I'm still trying to get the tunnel smell out of my nose... It's almost like it followed us here.
Reiker: Yeah, I smell it too. Then again, I doubt I'll be able to smell anything else for a while... That was terrible.
[NYOOM!]
Reiker: AH!
Yanshu: Eek!!
[FWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!]
???: Good work there, Seth! That was a clean run… Took 7 milliseconds off your last time!
”Seth:" Yeah. Would'a been better if I wasn't avoiding these bozos.
Reiker: (We're not even standing on the track…)
Reiker: Hi, yes! Sorry to bother you two, but, uh…
Reiker: [Ahem] My name is Reiker Strait. I'm the defense attorney in the upcoming court case regarding the murder of Radika Bodacious, and this is my assistant, Yanshu Dryll. We were hoping to ask a few questions, if you have time.
???: Ah, yes… Dr. Robotnik told me there'd be more visitors. How can I help you?
Reiker: Well… There’s a few things I'd like to go over, but can we start with your names?
???: Ha! Yeah, you're gonna need those, huh?
Alcost: Winfred Alcost, head coach of the Sunnyside Extreme Gear League, but that's just the formalities. Most folks call me Winnie, 'cuz that's what we do here!
Alcost: Isn't that right, Seth?
"Seth": (Oof-) Sure…
Jetsam: The name's Seth - Seth Jetsam - but you just call me Jetsam. I'm training to be the next Sunnyside League racer.
Jetsam: … Whadda you guys want, anyway? That one robot already asked us everything. Can't ya just look at his files or something?
Reiker: (Right… Orbot and Cubot did mention him being here, didn't they? He must've already left.)
Reiker: (Being so far from the crime scene, it's hard to imagine anything relevant coming up, so why does everything feel so... Tense?
Reiker Strait: Mobian palm cockatoo, 24 - Sunnyside’s latest public defense attorney, appointed by Eggman himself. Prides himself on professionalism and dedication to the truth, but often struggles under pressure and his own standards.
Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik: Human, 53 - ruler of the Eggman Empire, creator, mayor, and chief justice of Sunnyside. Seems to be busy most of the time; understandable, given his sheer number of titles.
Yanshu Dryll: Mobian mole, 20 - one of Dr. Eggman’s Robo-Techs and the creator of Flash Driver. Currently on sabbatical, acting as Reiker’s field assistant. Rather prone to anxiety, but remarkably knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics, particularly within more technical fields.
Flash Driver: Android Robo-rabbit, age N/A - Yanshu’s proudest achievement and excitable best friend. Currently filling in as Reiker and Yanshu’s office helper computer guy, primary informant, and head of communications! Surprisingly agile with extendable limbs, expressive eye-displays, and internet connectivity.
Tony Danforth: Mobian hawk, 24 - an avid Extreme Gear enthusiast part of the Sunnyside Extreme Gear League. Accused of murdering Extreme Gear racer, Radika Bodacious, currently being held for questioning. Presents himself as "chill" and somewhat dopey, but is much more bothered by the situation than he appears.
Vivienne “Viv” Pikmei: Mobian dog (poodle), 23 - a sophomore studying fashion design and marketing at New Yolk University and potential witness found in Collision Corkscrew Skate Park. Has a strong dislike of Tony.
Pookie: Bytenik, age N/A. Vivienne’s beloved, wall-eyed pet. About as spoiled as a bug-shaped robot could possibly be. Attracted to electric signals and (apparently) the sound of Extreme Gear.
Orbot (SA-55): Robot, age N/A - one of Eggman's long-standing personal assistants, rarely separated from Cubot. Seems to have been recently been assigned as head of forensics. Layers his various comments with a thin veneer of politeness. A self-proclaimed fan of doing nothing at all.
Cubot "Mr. Detective Cubot" (IDI-07): Robot, age N/A - one of Eggman’s long-standing personal assistants, rarely separated from Orbot. Seems to have been recently assigned as head of crime scene investigation. Still getting used to his new personality chip, according to Orbot - it has made him rather abrasive.
Winfred “Winnie” Alcost: Mobian walrus, age 56 - head coach of the Sunnyside Extreme Gear League and Jetsam's trainer. Comes across as rather strict with his trainees. He's never seen without his whistle.
Seth Jetsam: Mobian fish (barracuda), age 24 - a skate-type Extreme Gear racer part of the Sunnyside Extreme Gear League. Standoffish and serious, but squeamish about blood. He's apparently a collector of Chao Racing trading cards.
Lawbot (R-D57R): Robot, age N/A - Eggman’s new prosecuting attorney built specifically for the role. Appears made to resemble a Mobian lizard of some kind, though the western theme is curious. Charming and confident, but irks Reiker deeply.
