The air shifts uncomfortably. More staticky than usual.
Sheβs aware of it. Of course she is. Itβs become the daily recently; the usual. Something theyβd come to expect. When the air got too tense, and heavy, or when their battery got too low. Or when they were all alone.
They were all alone far too often nowadays.
Something in another room buzzed faintly, enough to make Cadet grip the table tighter. They were starting to leave little dents in the old metal.
Low beeps and clicks. beeep beep beeep beep beep beeep beeep beep beep beep beeep. And then again. And again. And again.
More piles of wires coming from nowhere. Stacking up; taking up space. Sheβd get rid of them, and theyβd show up again. Sometimes she woke up with them wrapped around their body, gripping tight enough to make the plastic casing crack.
And now It was speaking to her again. All the time. Every day. Every week. Every month. Until the files theyβd deleted of the beeping showed up again unprompted.
