Gmail is very popular email service and it works well on iPhone. If you like to setup Gmail on iPhone, check out below instructions. It is very easy and intuitive to add Gmail account to iPhone, especially when you are running the latest iOS 7 on your iPhone. During the configuration progress, your iPhone can automatically input most of the required information for you, so you do not need to manually type too much information.

From the home screen of your iPhone, tap to open Settings app. Scroll down to find the Mail, Contacts, Calendars, item from the menu, see below screen capture. Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars from above menu, you will open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings panel where all your existing email accounts will be listed under the Accounts section. Tap on Add Account, you will be taken to a screen like below. This screen shows the available email types and services you can choose from, like iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo mail, AOL mail, Outlook.com emails (Live mail, Hotmail, …). There is also an Other option, it refers to other email services that support IMAP or POP mail protocols. For example if you host your own email services,  such as [email protected], you should be able to setup your own self-hosted email accounts on iPhone as well. In this case, we are going to add Gmail account to iPhone, so choose Google from the email type list. Now you have the chance to type in your Gmail account info including your name, Gmail username, Gmail password and description of your Gmail account. Name and description can be anything you like. In the email field, you have to use your full Gmail address including the ‘@gmail.com’ at the end of the email address. Password is your Gmail account password you use to log on Gmail from web browsers. See screenshot as below.

Once you filled all the required info as required above, tap on the Next button on the top right corner.  Your iPhone will send your a connection request to Gmail server with the input credentials. If your email and password are both right, you will then see a screen like following. Now you will see available options to import or sync your email, contacts, calendars and notes from your Gmail account to iPhone. By default options, email, calendars, notes, are selected while Contacts will not be selected. If you like to Sync contacts from Gmail to iPhone as well, slide to enable it, you will then see a prompt like this: Before adding Gmail contacts to iPhone, you will see a prompt like above figure. You need to choose how you like to do with existing local contacts on iPhone. What would you like to do with existing local contacts on your iPhone? To keep on iPhone or delete them? If you are not sure, just select ‘Keep on My iPhone’. This will not remove existing contacts when importing new contacts from Gmail to iPhone. After that, tap on Save button on the top right corner and you are done!
