Inked Skin

Prompt: Free day

“You want a tattoo someday?”

Seung looked up from his book to watch his sister and mother talk in the kitchen, his father filling up the dog’s water bowl. 

“Yeah, but the laws here discourage it don’t they. I’d have to get it abroad for it to be completely legal.”

“Tattoos Noona?”

They turn to face him, his sister smiling in delight.

“I want something awesome, such as a dagger or a dragon. It would be so cool, don’t you think?”

“But, aren’t they permanent? What if you end up not liking it?”

“I’ll cross that bridge if I get to it.”

He nodded and curled back up with his book, snuggling back into the sofa as the trio continued to discuss the possibilities for when Yeong-Hui was old enough.

“Appa, Eomma, I have something to tell you.”

“Come here Seung, you have no need to look so worried.”

They remained partially hidden by the doorframe, nervously tugging at the skirt they were wearing out of sight. They’d already had this conversation with their sister who had been more than willing to pass on old and unwanted clothes for them to try out. It was just... more nerve-wracking to repeat it with their parents. Taking a deep breath, they stepped out, the skirt fluttering behind them.

“Wow. You look stunning Seung. I wish I could pull off a skirt like that.”

It takes a moment for his father’s words to sink in, and when they do they step back slightly in confusion.

“W-wait what? You’re not mad?”

Their mother laughs and beckons for them to come closer, their skirt fluttering out their ankles as they moved. Standing in front of their parents, they bowed their head slightly, not daring to meet their eyes.

“Skirts are great to wear you know? What should we use for you in English?”

“Ah... neutral pronouns please.”

“Alright, now sit down, we’re going to order you some new clothes so you don’t just have your sister’s hand-me-downs.”

Seung was seriously questioning their life choices at this point in their life.

Somehow, Yeong-Hui had managed to persuade their parents to take them on holiday to America for their 18th birthday so that they could get tattoos together.

Without asking them first.

Sure, they’d been considering getting a tattoo but so soon?

They sighed as their parents and sister cooed and chattered away about the different shops around them, scrolling through their Instagram and liking the occasional post. Over time, they’d managed to obtain a small gathering of like-minded people: non-genderconforming introverts and extroverts who enjoyed art and reading. Snapping a quick photo of a flower arrangement as they passed, they uploaded it, likes and comments flooding in almost immediately.

“Seung? We’re here! The best tattoo shop in the whole of Detroit!”

Slipping their phone into their pocket, looking up to see a bright shopfront, people bustling around inside. They followed their parents in, the familiar sound of kpop drifting through the air as one of the employees bounded over.

“Greetings! My name is Phichit Chulanont, how may I help today?”

“My sibling and I booked appointments for tattoos, I believe that I was with someone called Katsuki Yuuri?”

“Oh Yuuri? YUURI! CUSTOMER!”

Someone else makes their way over, much slower this time, tugging on their knee high socks before standing next to Phichit.

“Hello, you must be Yeong-Hui right? Come with me, I have some sketches I can show you based off of the ideas you sent.”

Their sister walked away with Yuuri, chattering animatedly as they went.

“Seung, we were thinking of looking around the shops for a bit if that was okay with you.”

“Yeah, sure. Love you.”

“Love you too. Choose wisely!”

They waved goodbye, turning back to Phichit once they were out of sight. Allowing themself to be led to a room further back, Phichit waving to other workers as they passed.

“What pronouns should I use for you?”

“O-oh, they/them please.”

“Great, I go by he/him. Now, your sister said that you were looking for something to do with flowers and fans, so I have couple of designs prepared.”

“I was thinking that maybe I should get two, I spotted a flower that I’d like somewhere on the way in.”

“Sure! Let me find them and we can get started.”

Seung stepped out to meet their sister clutching paperwork concerning tattoo care and another piece with Phichit’s number on it, a light blush dusting their cheek.

“Tell you what, second tattoo’s on me. Cute people like you deserve to be showered in gifts.”

They shook away the thought, approaching Yeong-Hui and poking her shoulder, causing her to shriek in surprise.

“Where did you come from? And what took you so long?”

“I came from inside, and guess who got somene’s number and a free tattoo.”

“No way.”

“Yes way.”

Lifting the hem of their shirt to show off the flower on their hip, they let it slip off their shoulder to show off the floral fan, giggling at their sister’s gasp.

“You lucky human being!”

“I know right? Two perfect tattoos and a gorgeous man’s number!”

The pair of them laughed and set off to find their parents, Seung admiring the dagger now decorating their sister’s left arm.

Things that people don’t know about Seunggil

Seunggil Week Day 2, Day 6: AU and Animal Kingdom

(Alternative: Things that I want to Seunggil to be in my spirit+gods+modern setting fusion au fic that I haven’t exactly started yet; he’s a side character btw)

1. He has a pet dog that he constantly rants to; whether it be about his day, skating or the nuisances in his life, his dog is the keeper of all secrets that is Seunggil.

2. He has a quarter spirit blood in him. This allows him to understand and communicate with every animal, and also plants. He also has healing abilities as well, though he’s only known to alleviate pain and cure bruises, but is uncertain if it also does its magic on major injuries or chronic diseases. 

3. Despite his intimidating demeanor, Seunggil does smile around animals and plants the most. The presence of nature itself calms him. This explains the horticulture in his apartment (and sometimes, when no one is looking, he takes out a keychain of a pressed flower and he grasps it in his hand, as though in prayer and in luck).

4. People know crowds displease him, but are unaware of his abhorrence for city pollution.

5. His family is slightly strict, and only a few (including his immediate family) are well known to his spirit heritage. People rarely talk of such things, and are mostly regarded as merely myths and legends. Families like his make sure that it stays that way (because there are those who profit from kidnapping a hybrid, a spirit, or, if they’re lucky, a god; history is rich of those and is less apparent in the modern times).

6. While he doesn’t exactly go out to make friends, Seunggil is well acquainted with a god (Victor), a hybrid (Yuri P.), and a human (Phichit). He tolerates (loves) their presence. 

7. For a privy person, he isn’t immune to gossip in the “Other” Realm. (”Have you heard? There’s a rumor that a demigod is in town. Goes by the name Altin?” “Really? Who’s the parent?” “No one knows. Demigods are rare.”)

8. Reluctantly, he admits that he’s Viktor’s ally and does his job in reporting local, and international, gossip (because spirits and gods are shameless and they talk. A lot. He’s a bartender, and has excellent hypersensitive hearing.)

Seung-gil tested the currents of the ocean around him, glancing back at the Kictionfin Kingdom one last time. It was the middle of the night and only a few of the sentry were out, patrolling against the beasts that came out when the silver eye rose over the waters. It was a pattern he’d observed for himself, swimming to where the water ended and gave way to the dry ocean above, watching the path of the silver and golden eyes, feeling the tides and the fishes match their path. This was the only time he could escape without anyone noticing, without his father noticing and dragging him back to chain him to the throne.

He turned to disappear into the dark waters, drawing up short as he found the snitchfish JJ hovering in front of his face.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

Seung-gil grimaced, flicking his tail fin to maneuver aside and resume his escape. “None of your business.”

JJ huffed a stream of bubbles as he flitted after, swimming beside him. “I was told to alert the sentry if you tried to go off on your own in the middle of the night again.” “Then alert them. I’ll turn you into lobster bait tomorrow.”

JJ grumbled under his breath. “Lobsters don’t like kingfish.”

Seung-gil snorted. “Is that what you are? I thought you were a snitchfish.”

“I hope you get eaten by a shark,” JJ muttered, smacking his tail against Seung-gil as he turned to swim back to the kingdom.

Seung-gil ignored him and continued on, basking in the silence of the deep ocean. There was a shipwreck not far from there; it’d sunk several silver eyes before and he intended to poke through the fresh treasures of the land swimmers. His father had confiscated his collection when he was sixteen, and he’d been building it back up ever since, hidden away in a cove that even JJ didn’t know about.

He reached the edge of the Kictionfin territory, where the land dropped away into a deep trench, the outline of the large ship just visible in the depths. He glanced around, deeming the area safe enough before pushing away and swimming down. The water grew murky, the sediment still drifting and settling from the massive structure crashing into the ocean floor.

The ship was cracked in half, the large poles that had been sticking out of it snapped into pieces and littering the area around it. He swam closer, finding an opening and squeezing inside. He poked through the splintered wood and cracked hard shell, ducking under broken chunks as he looked for the chests he knew would be buried beneath.

His father had called him greedy, childish, his head full of starfish and broken shells, but he wanted to know what it was like in the dry ocean above, and if the only way to do that was to scrounge for sunken treasure from the land walkers’ ships, so be it.

The glint of something further below caught his eye and he dove, hissing softly as splintered wood scraped his arm, but the excitement overrode the pain. He brushed aside the settled dirt, finding a round, shiny silver ball with countless rivulets and crevices. It squished a bit when he squeezed it and he could pull it apart until it was wide and flat and crumpled like the ocean floor.

He squished it back into a small orb and tucked it into his pouch, turning to continue hunting when a shadow passed by the opening nearby. He froze, glancing to his arm and thin trail of blood oozing from the scratch. With a curse, he pulled seaweed from his pouch and pressed it over the wound, but the damage was already done.

He swam to the opening and glanced out, looking up as a shark passed overhead. And not just any shark. The black tail marked it as a paisin shark. They were the only shark in the area that hunted in packs, and he counted at least six of them.

The top of the chasm was a good distance away, but if he swam fast enough, he could reach it before they caught him. He waited until they were on the far side of the chasm before pushing away from the ship, gritting his teeth as the desperate flailing caught his tail on a jagged spike, tearing the delicate fins.

His course faltered, heart beating hard in his chest as he sensed the sharks take notice of his movements. He kept his eyes on the top of the cliff, throwing himself into a roll as a shark came at him from the side. Hard flesh slid against his arm, knocking him back toward the ship. Another shark came at him from above, and when he turned to flee back to the cover of the ship, another was there, already close enough he could see the rows of sharp teeth.

He screamed as they sank into his arm, the murky water turning dark with blood. It spread into a thick cloud as he flailed, struggling to free himself, and when he finally did, he looked in horror at the empty space his arm had been. He clamped his hand over it, grimacing with a sick sort of fascination at the feel of bone.

His mind and body turned sluggish, his body feeling cold as the Arctic waters as he struggled for the ship again. It was a futile attempt, another scream tearing from his throat as teeth sank into his tail.

He saw the other sharks coming for him as his vision darkened at the edges, and all he could do was wonder what he'd done to end up here, cold and alone and dying.

It’s technically day 2 of Seunggil week so I decided to go with a floral theme based on a photo of a Korean model that I saw. I changed the flowers and colors. Had to use a reference for the shadows. I think day 2 is a free day so florals it is.
