murderous thoughts about Mark S aside, it's so interesting that they flipped the Orpheus/Eurydice theory on its head. Outie Mark was able to get his love out of hell but Mark S knew he'd never be able to free his own love, and it was him turning around to look at her that's now confined both of them to the underworld. It's not that his love for Gemma trapped her down there, but that his love for Helly trapped him down there.

Natalie's Use of the pronoun "It"! Big spoiler-- I haven't finished the episode yet, I know it just came out 15 minutes ago. I'm at the scene between Natalie and Milchik and-- not only is the scene INSANE, but one minor detail that I just had to say something about... Natalie says "The board is jubilant at your ascendance. It wants you to feel appreciated and asks if you do." The board has always been a monolithic entity, but everyone just assumed by the use of "the board" that this was a standard corporate board of directions. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't remember if anyone has ever used the pronoun they to refer to the board? This implies that "the board" is not a board of directors but some sort of singular entity. There's been a lot of theories that the board was made up of the past Eagan CEOs, but what if the board was Kier itself? or, and it's far-fetched, but maybe some sort of circuit-board (thus the name) an althorigm of some sort perpaphs maintained with data from the past Eagans? Let me know what you all think! Writing this here before the theory is inevitably posted to Reddit. For all I know, this will be debunked by the end of the episode.

even though i finished watching severance yesterday it just dawned on me: irving dies. like for real. the only version of himself that was every truly loved never even got to accept that love himself. right.

this episode had stand out scenes referring to being young equalling a loss of control/autonomy with helly saying helena dresses her like a baby and with milchick chanting to the mirror to "grow up" which felt like repeating something someone must've drilled into him, i could not stop thinking abt the childish names they have for them (innies) and the abrahamic belief of children being free of sin and granted heaven if they die which is further reinforced by the pastor fields saw saying innies are basically sinless... severance itself being a physical manifestation of giving up autonomy to the company and being "reborn" and thus owned by the company, the eagans indoctrinate children with their schools and songs. in the real world children are so often treated as 'others' or even as property and not as people with the same rights as adults and it's something i always think about. it was just so prevalent this episode to me even if it's a theme explored throughout the show and it's scary

Severance spoilers:

I don’t think people realize that Mark S. and Helly R. are not running to something. They’re running to have as much time together as they can.

They know that outside of that one floor of that building they have no autonomy and no life and no existence. Their lives aren’t seen as valid. Mark S. knew walking out that door that all possibility of ever seeing Helly R. again is gone.

And I’m firmly on the side that the one who is with him is Helly. We see parts of the people bleed into the outties and innies. They say the same phrases and have the same mannerisms because that’s the same person split in two. The thing is, Helena is broken. I don’t think she’s necessarily cruel. Because as someone who was raised in a system that ingrained the idea of being cruel in the name of God as necessary, I have no room to judge her. But I think that Helly R. had that same realization as Mark. They don’t have much time with each other, but they can make the most of it.

And also as soon as Mark gave no flying fucks to what the name of the person that Mark S. loved, he wasn’t going to help them any longer. The same way he was pissed that Helena called Gemma, Hannah.

Anyways all that to say, it’s a fucked up situation that was caused by a fucked up system and fucked up people. And there’s really no way to solve it.
