Writing remains a slog, so I hope you don't mind me spouting out an idea that's been in my head but can't seem to translate it on the page.

Yes. It's about the blorbo.

(This has been in my drafts for a while because I couldn't find a way to articulate it properly. Apologies in advance for the ramblings of a lunatic).

So. Cyrus is in a very rough state. Even after Lucien's intervention and the partial recovery of his memory, there's still a lot of physical, mental, and external things hindering its recovery.

Perfect for angst, yes. But it doesn't have to be all suffering. As much as I like pathetic, trauma-filled whumpees, I still think it's important to show growth, or at least progression. They are not stagnant, and neither are people in real life. Because as much as we have bad days and horrific experiences, the world moves on. Maybe tomorrow will be different. Nobody can say for certain. But it's worth a shot.

Cyrus is a very extreme example of trauma, but it doesn't mean it can't keep going either.

... Okay, maybe I got a little too sappy. What I'm trying to say is that I've been trying to think of Cyrus's recovery and the things that still remain in him.

Additionally, with it being hard to do things in his current state, he has to settle on other methods of enrichment. In the advent of him regaining some literacy, he might engage in introspection and try to determine why he is the way he is or where to go from here. Panicked thinking and dissociation being replaced with purposeful thought. It's things that he might try to put into words (once he relearns writing, of course).

First, despite the fog often clouding his mind, Cyrus nowadays has a very good memory. The issues it has with remembering things usually occur because it's stressed. When he's calm, or calm-adjacent, he retains information terrifyingly well despite the issues with his sight. People get paired with certain smells and voices, things like that. It's very selective what he chooses to remember.

God, even trying to yap about this, it's hard to communicate. TLDR, Cyrus had a very bad time and is altered physically and mentally to an unchangeable extent. It's sad to see and fun to explore, but I still think it would be nice to give him a glimmer of hope. Of some autonomy and life that remains. That Lucien's efforts are worth something.

... And obviously. His recovery would drastically improve if he was no longer in Foundation custody. Or at least, given more space and rights and such.

... Or something like that.

Shylock

Shylock is a pony that not many know, and fewer who have lived after seeing his face.

Shylock is the loneliest pony in all of Equestria due to his curse.

Anypony who views Shylock's face is doomed to die by his hoofs, Shylock will experience immense pain until the deed is done.

This curse was originally meant to be a defence mechanism but has since twisted over the years. Shylock has found temporary work arounds such as wearing a sack over his head. Shylock very rarely leaves his living area but when he does he'll coverup as much of his appearance as possible.
