Another gem from CMA’s Jazz Age special exhibition: the architects Walker & Weeks’ presentation illustration of the planned Grand Foyer at Severance Hall, which completed construction in 1931. How lovely! And accurate - this is exactly how I remember it. OVERVIEW

In the era surrounding World War II, many composers escaped the tumult of the European political climate for the sunny skies and palm trees of Hollywood.  This concert explores the work of three of these composers, paired with Gershwin’s ever-popular Rhapsody in Blue, which looked to the European classical tradition but with his unique flair for jazz-influenced melodies.

[Pop culture note:  Rhapsody in Blue has appeared in countless movies and commercials.  For many years, it was the signature theme of United Airlines.]
