It’s Been A While, Hasn’t It? -- @seviiscript
The ferry ride from Vermillion to One Island felt more like a rollercoaster.
Time never felt heavy for the ranger until it was time to face the next big change. Until there were no more tasks to put in front of that change. Until he inevitably stood face to face with it, the time passed glaring at him with impatience.
And now, after so much of it had passed, and so much of it in silence, Cayden felt the weight.
It was like the anchor he’d been staring at.
Impossibly heavy, dropping in his stomach.
Telling him to turn around. Get off the boat. Swim back if he had to.
Such an old song, such a tiring dance.
It was time to break the record.
So the entire walk from the small port, to the little cottage, he practiced an apology. Hoping it’d be enough, and... if it wasn’t. Well, he’d have two cheeseburgers and enough gummy bears to last him a month.
There was a fleeting thought, a wonder, if he should have come in uniform instead of casual wear. A back up plan, just a ‘stop in the area,’ or a ‘quick job’ for his mother.
Then again, it didn’t matter. What reason was there to lie. If the developer chose to ignore his text, or slam the door in his face, that was beyond fair.

Hip against the railing, he looked down at Quincy as he waited. The Flaafy was so excited, but doing her absolute best to stay quiet. To not give up the ‘surprise,’ or shake the can of lemonade the ranger trusted her to hold.
Now, it was time to wait just a l i t t l e longer.
