52. ❝you could’ve died, you know?❞ (Mothriks to Kinsis after the attack on Scars)
Kinsis was healing. Sort of.
Salrin had said that the scarring would most likely bepermanent. She said that Kinsis was lucky to have even survived the blast atall; that not many eliksni could even carry scars from a Guardian’s fire andlive to tell the tale. Physically, he would survive. The burns would stop beingopen wounds and would just be scars to carry – scars that would burn forever, but scars all the same.
Emotionally, though, it felt like he would never be okayagain. It had been days after the attack before he’d been in stable enoughcondition anyone dared tell himabout Arksis. And the news of his son had hurt him worse than any of thephysical pain that had occurred.
He stared blankly at a wall when Mothriks spoke to him, notseeming to respond at first, but eventually turning his head to look at thedreg. His eyes were tired, both from the heartbreak and the potent medicine hewas being fed to keep the pain at bay.
“I was… trying to protect my family.” He breathed quietly, the usual sass and sharpness he held towards Mothriks gone in that moment.Kinsis’ eyes remained on Mothriks for a few more seconds before they felldownwards and closed. “It was impulse.”
